How long has it been since Blizz implented LIFO (Last In First Out)? People still can’t manage to figure out how that works and insist on continually undercutting by 1g or whatever.
It is really sad to see that people like to screw themselves over by slowly tanking their own markets. I can see if you want to destroy a market, drive all competitors out and then relist, but what is the point of undercutting by 1g each time you relist something that sells for 3-5k?
For those who don’t know, LIFO works by selling the LAST auction posted at a price FIRST. That means, if something is listed for 3500g, and you post that item at 3500g, YOUR listing will sell FIRST… at least until someone else posts at 3500g. You gain absolutely nothing by lowering the price by 1g. You will be the first to sell until someone else posts at the same price you listed at.
We can’t even blame old auction addons - they don’t work anymore.

I undercut by like 50% because I just don’t care about gold that much

I guess… but why not sell it at a normal price and then give your gold to the nearest beggar?

You can buy it from me if I have a better deal than you. I get my gold either way

That’s respectable… it is the 1g undercuts that make no sense.

Put the blame square on the shoulders of what WAS the multiboxers and huge guilds.
Personally, im not waiting for 65k of someone elses herbs to sell… so no, i dont care about LIFO or whatever else it is youre selling

I set my own prices. And if I have to undercut I will.

It… doesn’t work that way. If you post yours AFTER they posted it, YOURS will sell BEFORE theirs.

Free markets rule the AH.
Can’t control it

And, if I dont post it AFTER they do?

just gonna throw out there how much I loathe people who undercut by a gold. loathe. absolutely loathe.
i also hate when i find a random thing and start putting it up on the AH for a decent price (because its not an easy item to get/dependent on a dynamic event) then someone sees that I got the market cornered on that so they start doing the same. ugh…
Then theirs will sell first. Just like if you post for 1g less than them, and they post at that price AFTER you, theirs will sell first.

Right.
But the likelihood of someone REposting 65k herbs to my 200 to re-undercut me by another gold is very low.

Why does undercutting upset anyone? This is the nature of the market and supply and demand surely? Just gotta live with it I suppose.
… I don’t think you understand how it works either.
If they have their 65k herbs posted, and you listed it at the same price as them after they posted, yours will sell first. If you post your 200 herbs, then they post 65k more, delist yours and relist for the same price… then yours will sell before them.
I understand how it works, in fact all too well
Undercutting is perfectly fine. Undercutting by 1g on something selling for thousands… is pointless in a LIFO system. It doesn’t encourage people to buy it “at a deal”, or convince competition to stop posting… it just slowly kills the market.
No, they’ll repost their herbs at the same price as yours and sell them first anyway.
