Affliction needs a way to chain their dots in AOE Situations. The current playstyle of pressing vile taint and then having to manually refresh agony on 8+ targets in AOE situations is unacceptable. Even the new tier set doesnt resolve the issue as there is still a period of time where you agony falls off prior to Vile Taint being used again. All of the other DOT classes have a straight forward way to reapply or extend their dots in AOE scenarios Druids have Starfall and Shadow Priests have Shadow Crash which is available to be cast again before the dots fall off.
Suggestion 1.
Agonizing Corruption is turned into a 1 point node that now says Seed of Corruption Explosion damage now applies 1 stack of Agony and extends its duration by .5 Seconds(Meaning you would get 1.5 seconds of extension through sow the seeds assuming your targets are all exploding on eachother) this would allow you in AOE scenarios to make it to a point where Vile Taint is available for refreshing without dropping all 18 stacks on multiple mobs
Suggestion 2. Reduce Vile Taints CD back down to 20 seconds
It didn’t feel that bad losing some dot uptime in a big fight in SL S4. As affliction.

Do you really need 100% uptime on all mobs if the dots are hitting hard enough your numbers are stable? How does affliction stand on the meters.
As shadow priest, I get 8 free dot applications. That doesn’t cover MDI style pulls and I need VT out on as many mobs as possible to do AoE. My numbers are still good tbough.
Try not putting dots on mobs that are about to die.
Yeah I’m curious if this is a real problem or just an issue of compulsion to maintain a spell.
If my dots will hit hard on 5 mobs I’d rather that then a weak ability that hits 25 mobs with tickles. I want my dots to be super punchy and make players scream when they see me lol.

As an Affliction main, it is VERY annoying that in huge groups of mobs, I have refresh Agony manually whereas with Corruption just has the Absolute Corruption talent which lets you not worry about that DoT. And even if you did, Seeds has no cooldown so it’s easy to refresh Corruption on multiple targets.
Vile Taint is a good ability and all, but it feels very situational; like you are supposed to apply it when a huge group of mobs are almost dead and there’d be a big lull until the next trash pack.
I would just like Agony to last as long as Vile Taint’s base cooldown.

It is a real problem because maintaining the spell is essential to generating soul shards in AOE scenarios. Losing and having to reapply agony and let it ramp back up means you are going to enter into a soulshard drought losing out on tons of damage. Reapplying agony early means you are stuck doing something other than casting Seed which means you flooding soul shards and losing out on massive amounts of damage. A true Damned if you do Damned if you dont scenario.
Vile taint is a ST and AOE dmg increase you play it in almost every scenario. Vile Taints main purpose in AOE is applying Agony to pack of mobs. At high key levels Mobs last 2+ Vile taint CDs (~1minute) meaning you are going into the next pack without vile taint essentially nuking any potential damage you would have for that next pack or leaving the previous pack trying to reapply agony on multiple targets which in turn leaves gcd bloat where you should be spending soul shards
Yes you need uptime on all the mobs. Agony is your ONLY soul shard generation in AOE scenarios as it is terrible to try and cast drain soul when you should be spending soul shards on Seed. The Damage from Agony Ramps meaning it does less damage at low stacks and more damage at high stacks losing those stacks sets you back. Losing time reapplying 6-8 agonys on mobs while trying to maintain seed of corruption casts to prevent overcapping on shards is terrible. Shadow Priest can effectively maintain 11 dots 3 hard cast and 1 shadow crash in AOE scenarios which puts them at half the GCDs required to just get the spec started.
Malefic Rapture killed my enjoyment of affliction.
I enjoy spreading my dots on DK… for warlock it’s a pita.
Even on shadow priest it’s more enjoyable.
For a specc that was the original dotting class, it feels wrong.
I feel like Soul Rot should apply all dots to all targets, it’s a 1 min cd so it’s not crazy I would think.
I did say that it did feel like a situational ability, not that it was. I do actually regularly use it.
well at least we can set and forget corruption, one less dot to have to refresh in PVE. But I dont’ know about the OP point, have to wait for 10.1.5 and see if it will really be THAT bad
I hear this a fair bit but i dont understand it.
I only played affliction after it was added so i dont know it without.
But to me its a great spell. You set up your dots, and then use rapture for some fantastic aoe.
And single target you set up lots of dots for some great damage with it.
I honestly love the spell
Vile Taint CD should not exceed the duration of Agony, that is to say that we should just be able to use Vile Taint to refresh Agony as it comes close to full duration.
Alright, let me explain why I preferred affliction before MR :
Used to simply slap dots on targets and then unstable affliction on main target, my dots were doing a good portion of their damage and I simply refreshed them.
Filler could be whatever I needed/wanted depending on the situation.
I greatly enjoyed dotting a target and forgetting about it until refresh.
I think it was in Legion that it felt like you were sucking the soul of your enemy although OP, it felt true to the specc. Comparatively to Malefic Rapture who has no animation ( which imo makes it boring, I take the time to cast it and only numbers to show for it ) and makes dots actually do damage because without it, they tickle.
Mind you, if they replaced it with something that fits the soul siphoning fantasy I would personally not mind at all.
In short, MR feels boring and doesn’t fit the fantasy imo, plus it is absolutely essential to the dot damage and the whole specc.
Honestly I play Absolute Corruption so I never worry about it. One less DoT to keep track of. I already don’t like how Aff plays currently.
Are you referring to Absolute Corruption? You aren’t able to take that talent in PVE scenarios. You have to take Siphon Life in all scenarios currently. Both ST and AOE.
Otherwise yes its set in forget in that its being refreshed by your Seed Spam but corruption does buns damage as it is and as stated earlier Agony only does damage when it has high uptime to maintain stacks. There is some sort of rework required for the spec as a whole.
I agree either that or there should be some way outside of casting 6+ agony’s on mobs in AOE scenarios. Which is why i suggested having Seed of Corruption help add duration per explosion essentially letting you get to that next Vile taint in AOE scenarios assuming you are casting Seed and playing your rotation properly
