After Wow, What is the Next Best MMORPG?

EVE Online for sure.

I only got two preferences:

Skyrim and League of Legends.

WoW and FFXIV are about equal to me. Lately with Dragonflight and general WoW leveling I’ve been having more fun here. But FFXIV has great rp and story and is more fun on a casual level because it has real things to engage it.

Behind them GWs2? I barely play other MMOS but if I were ever to leave these two that’s next.

Ashes of creation looks promising but I feel like it’ll go the way of most pvp games- Poorly.

The MMO I’ve spent the most time in besides WoW is FF14

I’m very much looking forward to the League MMO too.

Guild Wars 2, then maybe ESO.

wow has been riding on the success of previous eras for over a decade now…they’re just losing more and more devs too. not looking too good if you ask me…as much as i love wow :broken_heart:

i’m gonna put my money on Riot’s MMO to be a top contender; they’ve also been hiring a pretty large staff, with lots of ex devs.

Ghostcrawler had a pretty good grasp on how to make a good fantasy game, and their story writers are better than blizzard’s imo…they take lots of pride in the lore it seems - from a game with an extremely rich history to a successful TV show…blizzard on the other hand, threw their best stories into the garbage with shadowlands imo. not good

def a good time to play mmo’s, since i think we’re bound to have something fresh feeling in the future.

This is a divisive topic but honestly as a developer, mobile games >>>>>>> any mmo.

Why? Because they PRINT money. An MMO player always wants something for nothing. A mobile player understands their place in an ecosystem (whale > dolphin > fish).

Reddit. Its got infinite content that can keep you scrolling all day looking for a comment on a subject that seems to have a single brain cell.

Ff14 obviously. It’s pretty addicting at times

Guild Wars 2! And RuneScape and Oldschool RuneScape.

I am currently enjoying FFXIV and New World.

Both are very different from WoW, and each other, so it’s nice to experience something fresh.

Do I think either will overtake WoW? No.

There was a time computer gamers looked down on console gamers because computers were SOOOO much more powerful and could do SOOO much more, it was such a vastly superior product that consoles were just seen as “kids toys.”

I don’t think that’s true anymore. There really isn’t much difference, unless you hyper-focus on certain 3-month windows when certain hardware breakthroughs are brand new and bleeding edge. But that time fades quickly.

That being said, computer game or console game, you’ll never convince me that a “mobile game” is worth playing, because playing ANYTHING on a 5" screen is a waste of my time. There’s a reason I have gone from a 21" screen, to a 27", to my latest 29". How we visually interact with these games is paramount, and you just can’t do that on a mobile device. You will NEVER replicate the experience on a 30" screen to a 5" one. NEVER.

So even disregarding your assertion of “mobile > mmo”, when you could make a mobile-mmo, the semantics of all that don’t matter when the larger issue is: no REAL game will EVER be made for a mobile device. Not played specifically on mobile. Diablo:Immortal proves you can do both, but JUST a mobile game??

A mobile game will always be a second class citizen in the gaming world because you’re inherently limited by screen size.

As poor of a state as WOW is in, I still believe it’s gameplay is superior to all others and is a good game outside of the last two expansions. Plus with Classic coming out.

Next best? Either Guild Wars 2 or SWTOR. Guild Wars is a balanced in all directions game, nothing really stick out but it’s a good fun game with lots to do, SWTOR has hands down the best leveling experience and story (the base game, expansions are eh outside of the Immortal Empire one with Valkorian)… outside of Huttball, PVP is not special.

Honorable mention, ESO.

Like it or not World of Warcraft is still the top MMO out of everything else.

Awaiting LoL mmo.

I still think WoW is the the best mmo. Tried FF14 and found it stale and boring.

Before 4.0 it was rough depending om the class. It’s feels alot better now. The dungeon changes always make them… Interesting…

What’s your personal rating?

Spy > War > Inqis > Smuggler > JK > BH = Trooper = Counselor for me.

Imp Agent >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sith War, Bounty Hunter, Sith Inquisitor, Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular > got the others to the end but never finished, but they aren’t above any of the sith characters. Sith War, BH and Inquis are all interchangeable on how I feel atm.

Beats me. How does anyone have time to play another mmorpg so they can compare?

If Riot’s MMO doesn’t do well then there will be none, MMORPGs will never have a second golden age regardless though.
