After playing classic for 15 minutes

I played classic for a few months when it came out. everything was much slower which was actually a nice change of pace. I found it relaxing. it also gave me a deeper appreciation for the things that I had in retail.

as for an addon that makes retail play in the way you’re describing… I want to say there is but I’m unsure of what it’s called… I seem to remember a guildmate having something like this back in WoD, but questing has changed so much since then

Stay in classic, we don’t want these boring and dated mechanics here.
i just want to raid m+ and pvp.
Baffles me to see people that actually enjoy WoW questing, literally the most tedious and annoying aspect of any game i have ever played.

Id rather do literally anything, stare at a wall than level through quests in this game, every time i have to do it its literal torture.

People read quest text in retail? lol. Who has time for that and why would you slow down for something that doesn’t matter at all?

Exploration is pretty much dead anymore unless you want to dive into secrets like waist of time or jenafur before theyre figured out. There are a multitude of reasons for that but data mining and blizzard taking steps to stop unwanted exploration is probably the biggest. We know most everything before its released and blizzard has optimized the game to remove things “worth” finding while adding few hidden areas or objects.

I do, lores keep me playing. Blizzard keeps me posting here to beg them to do a better job.

When the leveling process and the friends you made on the way was the adventure…

The new design of our zones makes exploration moot. Even if you like how the zone looks like and want to take it in your mostly standing knee deep in a pile of world quest mobs. They made it too packed for my liking.

Games like Minecraft scratch my exploration itch these days. Imagine if they made WoW a world that gets generated differently each time you start the game like Minecraft. Endless exploration…hic!

I remember one quest in Classic, following the directions and being in areas I had no business being in. I was in a guild that recruited saying they liked teaching new players how to play. So I asked a couple of guildies where I needed to go. The response was to download this certain add on since it showed all the locations of the quest givers. I said I didn’t believe in add ons to which each one said sucked to be you. So much for helping people. After about 2 hours of going around in circles, getting killed by being in areas that I wasn’t high enough level to be in I finally found what I was looking for at Grom Dol Farm. A place I knew the location for. The guildies said they wanted me to learn how to explore. But a lot of the quest instructions had you in areas that wasn’t even close to the actual place you needed to be. But what was worse was the constant grinding, I had to do more grinding in order to be able to purchase my mount at level 40. So I was constantly going to certain areas farming for certain things. I was in one area when I got attacked from behind from a couple of animals that just showed up. I turned around to see what was hitting me and someone else had taken those threats away from me. Later on that same person was in the same predicament and I returned the favor. He waved at me and I thought maybe we should group. Then I noticed he was alliance and I was horde. One of my guildies happened to be in the area and gave me hell for helping an alliance person in a PVE environment. The guildmaster kicked me out of the guild. Talk about toxic. It was worse than playing retail. I never play PVP in either and never will. So why should I get that type of toxicity in a PVE environment. Especially from people saying sucks to be you.

I would genuinely avoid playing with veteran players if I am not stuck and need “real” help. We can’t expect people who played this for 16 years can pretend they are just as clueless as we do and won’t spoil anything to us.

Even most if not all the materials are already out there on the internet or on youtube, I keep one eye shut and just enjoy the lores and the worlds and the happiness and frustration in my adventure. To newbies like me, getting involved with experienced players are usually nightmare.

I played during vanilla…went back to classic to “revisit” some old memories. Realized after 1 toon to 60 and another to around 45, that there was an absolute reason i appreciate the QOL changes over the years.

I have to agree and that comes from 8 years of experience in the game. Even with the event I used both my lap top and my desk top. God forbid just asking what elite was next became toxic when logging in. I wasn’t asking for a pin location. I had all that information on my lap top. Just needed to know what elite was next so I could find the location on my lap top. But that is what happens when there are so many BS elitist players going around who were basically only after 2 of the elites. Sucks when you are using an alarm clock to play. Where I was going from one to another just trying to gear alts.

I just downloaded an add-on that told me where to go for each quest in Classic.

uhhh, I would totally avoid that one. I can just play retail with quest auto tracking if I want that.

I agree, defense cap, hit rating, mp5, expertise, the old talents and making hybrids - not just doing cookie cutter… The talents were nice because you felt invested, you spent 10 points here to get this extra benefit… Or saving up gold and only being able to buy 1m of your new spells. I remember farming some lvl 46 elites for hours just because I didn’t wanna quest anymore and they dropped 1-2 BOE epics that I sold… The professions were amazing and had quality to them, i look at professions now and im just like bleh… Yeah I can use jeeves/mailbox/nitros but the only thing im using from this expansion is the wormhole, admittedly when I have more time I might use the mine to guard caps but still it just lacks the flavor…

Or more importantly, I think one of the best memories for me was actually having to get your hands dirty in older raids, I remember in WOTLK there wasn’t catch up mechanics until they added those 3 late heroics so prior to that, you had to jump in naxx 25 to get raid gear so you could PROGRESS. As soon as this next raid in retail comes out all the old content will basically be moot, the same will be said for the subsequent raid tiers…

I thought it was one of the coolest things about classic/bc/most of wotlk, newer content didn’t invalidate older content (unless you are justin some top tier guild and are getting carried as a fresh max level)… It gave you PURPOSE to farm older content. Take for instance the ‘tears of bitter anguish’ from WOTLK. Thing was amazing for enhance and one of the highest simming trinkets at the time, only beaten out (IIRC) by the couple of trinkets in ICC. The tears trinket was a world drop from those valkyrs, I farmed for it for a couple days and got it!!! Meaning that as old as the content was, it still had a purpose and didn’t get 100% invalidated by the new pvp trinket, the new zone’s timeless trinkets or the very next raid tier…

Furthering that thought, I’m also under the impression that blade of the thunder fury was still VERY useful for holding aggro in BC which to me, is amazing gameplay. It makes your character FEEL like its BEEEN places, like the PAST MATTERED. Like my time invested in the character had meaning…

Personally, what I think they’ve done wrong the last 4ish expansions started with the prune… Like I remember getting excited about new expansions and seeing “ohhh priests are getting power infusion” …" OOO were getting x/y, I wonder how that will help"… Now instead of that sense of ‘progression’ its just a borrowed power and its taken away, that or we get it back 1 expansion later in the form of a legendary. Point is, the base form of the character isn’t being built upon anymore, its being destroyed and rebuilt every expansion practically… You enjoy playing disc healer in MoP and like smiting? Well too bad… You enjoy gladiator stance on your warrior from WoD? Too bad… You enjoy demon form on your warlock or enjoy the glyph giving you demon wings?? LOL TOO BAD… You enjoyed combat rogue??? TOO BAD… What’s that? You REALLY enjoyed long arm of the law gameplay for ret?? LOL tooo badd heres this gimmicky righteous charger… You enjoyed having 2 tank specs as a DK? frost/blood?? LOL NOPE, ALSO WERE TAKING YOUR UNHOLY/BLOOD AURA TOO GG

League of Warcraft. Sigh, all about grinding so that you can again become useless next game (expansion)

Yeah, I used a quest tracker addon in Vanilla. If not that, Thottbot was my friend. Over all, I loathed the unnecessary annoyance that came with Vanilla questing. There were times where it wasn’t obvious through quest text and the drop rate was super low, so without checking external sources, I went around the zone and wasted an hour before finally getting one piece to drop when I went back to the first area I started in. That wasn’t fun or exciting, it just made me take a break for a few days before I finished the quest.

IMO, vanilla was awesome in its time. It was better than post-CU SWG for sure. But I realized, after getting a rogue up to level 8 in classic a while back. that vanilla had its time. There have been so many QOL improvements since then. And I don’t want to raid MC, BWL, and AQ40 anymore. They had their time.
