After all the year's since vanilla... I Quit

So… hmm how do I say…

It’s been a great long road. Start to finish, many up’s and down’s… Lots of tear’s and laugh’s.

But… I’m done.

No longer is doing a simple dungeon or even a heroic version of dungeon is just… Void of any meaningful fun or thought.

It has become a Speeding train wreck of horrible Name calling and Belittling of your fellow player. I have seen people verbally abused and slander for making a tiny mistake, error or what have you.

In Certain chase’s I have come to see that this has become more then your typical school bullying. This is full on mistreat meant of another person.

I mean… come on, We all play the same game, we all have the same interest. And I’m tired of watching people tear each other apart over a video game.

I loved teaching, explaining how things happen or work. But I will not be thrown into the cess pool you call Speed Running Or Time Clearing because the mode you call MYTHIC +

this has not only spawned a evil of hate and hurt toward each other. but I refuse to be a part of it anymore.

I love being a tank, Protector of my friends and group members.

But I’ve had to much to continue doing it any more.

And this is not just me.

Name calling, Bullying, even threating message’s.

I love the art to this game and all the small simple things that go into it.

But I cant enjoy it or the people around me anymore.

Tanks have become either 1 stop shot mega D-Bag’s, or you got your calm and collective,… which are the ones getting all the B-S.

It’s at the point if you are not a mega Chad D-hole and don’t stop pulling till either every one is dead or your waving your fake flag of grandeur thinking you are better then the rest has gotten to the point of no return for me.

But you did it blizzard, you have fostered a child that will eventually destroy the game if you don’t stop it soon.

So I quit… I’ll be filling the ranks of DPS for the rest of the Expansion. Ill Never Tank Again.

yesterday tank lost aggro to some mobs.

i killed them. He gave me some lip about how he’s not running back to pick them up if i pull off him.

I told him no worries, I can tank them. He proceeded to give me some more lip.

i had a choice to make… do I drop that line that sends him into clinical depression, or do I let this lesser human go on about his day?

he just didn’t seem worth the effort… I let him go.

I agree, After time things just tend to not bother you. But when it has affected everyone and everything on a massive scale like this. Its truly hard to ignore anymore.

I totally suck, but have never experienced what you describe. I have wiped many a group… some players have logged out or left the group due to my ineffectiveness, but i never ever felt threatend or called any names other than ‘loser’ or ‘huntard’, maybe 3 times.

I don’t blame them because i take responsibility for my ineptitude.

Can I have your stuff?

it seems halls of infusion brings the worst in players.

me: we got to figure out that 20 stacks before M+
rando: we got to figure out your 8k dps.
me: boss was immune to damage while shielded.
rando: adds weren’t.
me: that explains the 20 stacks…

You cant even begin to imagine how many times i’ve had a hunter wipe the group from a BODY pull or whats that thing? Barrage i think. yea.

Its typical, when you been tanking long as i have you see many…many things.

But thats besides the point. I’m actually very glad you have not come across this as much as others have. but its very much out there.

It’s actually pretty bad when you care less about how the group dies because some dps pulls extra or the healer just cant keep up.

that if you dont have a SET path, planned timed or action to get the dungeon done as FAST AS possible, I hope you dont have weak skin.

I wish people could just have fun relaxing and playing as a team. It’s not supposed to be a clash of egos and “me me me” attitudes. I don’t know why so many are out to prove something in a video game but I’m far more impressed by someone who can get along with others than some tryhard who tops the DPS metres, pulls half a dungeon, or keeps up half an epic battleground on their own.

It’s great to have successes in game, and those successes should be celebrated, but not lorded over others. Mistakes are also made, but in most cases it’s just people being people. They aren’t going to improve because some anonymous person called them names.

If you’re playing this game as an escape, and do your best to enjoy it and help your teammates enjoy it, then you’re winning.

If this is where you come to prove your worth in life by playing with cartoon dolls with all the seriousness of a trauma surgeon in a disaster… then you’ve already lost, and no normal person is impressed by you.

I know this is going to sound incredibly cliché, but it gets trotted out for a real reason:

  • Find a guild of like-minded players and join it.

If you want to queue for a dungeon and know that the four other players in there are going to be pleasant human beings, run at the pace you want, not crap on your for mistakes, etc, you really need a guild. WoW’s playerbase isn’t predisposed to being kind and patient, and the odds of all four of the people you see in a random queue being both of those is pretty much zero. It is unfortunate that this is how it is now, but the various attitudes have ossified, and we’re kinda stuck with it in the macro sense.

If you ultimately choose to stick around, you should really go read the various Guild Recruitment posts on the forums and try a few out that seem like kindred spirits. Even queueing with 1-2 good guildies goes a long way to happy dungeoning. Hope that helps.

This is interesting to me because I have an opposite experience –

As someone who has played FFXIV since the 2.0 beta, their zero tolerance policy towards any kind of toxicity, name-calling, cussing, bullying, etc is so oppressive I fear for my account and stay silent even with friends because you cannot say anything these days without offending someone and they will report you and your account gets banned, 3 strikes and that’s game over - you get perma-banned. It’s awful.

Where in WoW it seems most people have “thicker skin” if you will. Most people know it’s just meaningless banter and shrug it off. Now I’m not condoning super toxic behavior or anything worse but it’s so nice to call someone an idiot once and a while and not have to worry about my account.

Some advice I could offer if you would like - is to not let these things get to you, and just enjoy what you want, how you want. As a tank you set the pace, if a group gets too mean and you leave or if they kick you - you can get right back into another group because tank privilege.

But I get it , toxicity sucks at times and can really ruin your experience at times. I hope you have fun with DPS though!

Can I still have your gold plz?

Why not tank just for your friends and guildies? But yeah, gotta suck to be yelled at all day

When class balancing becomes too much for one to handle.

worst part about this is if you had given him a taste of his own medicine I can almost guarantee you’d be the one catching a squelch or short ban. The toxic types are not above asking their whole guild to report you for their ego’s sake.

Its better off never to say anything in game, the egos on some of these speed runners are so tied up in pixels on wow that there’s no telling what they’ll do to get their petty “vengeance”.
