After 60 hours with Moonkin, it feels really, really bad

Even under the best circumstances, the dps is mediocre, if there is ANY movement, it becomes laughable. There is no reason to bring a moonkin to any raid and my GM has informed me that I will need to reroll.

It’s so slow and clunky. Feeels realllly bad.

… if you’re anything other than one of the top 50 guilds in the world pushing Mythic races, or top key pushers, just play what you want. Seriously.

I’m starting to think you don’t play Boomie.

Hrm… is that so? I think I’ll make my own judgements but are you certain you’re playing it to it’s full potential? I mean at the moment dungeons are really the only content pve’ers are doing and generally stellar drift is auto lock in for how strong starfall is. It also lets you cast on the move so…

…?

Probably doesn’t feel as bad as letting someone tell you what class you are allowed to play the game with. You know your guild doesn’t get paid right?

Almost like there is a talent that allows you to cast while moving …sure it requires set up but most classes can’t cast and move

Your GM sucks.

Total offense I assume your gm wants someone to reroll cuz your raid roster has 4 balance druids 1 healer 1 tank. your gm is bad and no one appears to be lvl 60. provided you had the bodies to raid appropriately druid would be a fine choice.

Icy Veins has moonkin as A tier and while I raid resto, I run some instances as balance and DPS is fine. You probably need to fix your rotation. Single target DPS is definitely mediocre without pooling AP to Starsurge at the start of Solar Eclipse. If you have to move use Stellar Drift or pool AP to Starsurge on the run.

From the PvP side of things Moonkin just feels bad with these changes.

Our damage was always loaded into Starsurges but now our damage is loaded into mastery powered starsurges which require us to be in an eclipse. GL getting those 2 casts off before you get melee training you hard.

Can’t comment on the pvp side of things, but in pve Boomie is fine.

Boomie is not bad, you just have to put some time into it…

PvP is not great in my resto affinity spec. I’ve tried some dueling. I’m hard as hell to kill with cyclone, roots or typhoon, followed by a big heal with rejuv/swiftmend, but I wasn’t getting the burst to finish off the duel with un-eclipsed starsurge. I think I’d want feral affinity to layer DoTs and bleeds.

PvE Moonkin is really good, especially compared to BFA. It is not S tier but it scales incredibly well with all 3 primary stats and you can pump out ludicrous numbers in your burst windows. There’s nothing wrong with PvE from a numbers perspective. But Eclipse isn’t fun IMO.

As for PvP, I haven’t tried it much yet but my understanding is that it’s good but a little bit lopsided. Your goal is to spam Moonfire and Sunfire until you’ve got enough AP to Starsurge and then use CDs for huge burst on target swaps. Eclipse is generally something you don’t worry a lot about unless you’re sure you can get into one.

The talent choices are a bit weird though. We’re used to running Resto Affinity and Charge but Renewal and Guardian Affinity are generally better.

I fully agree it’s slow and clunky.

The DPS is middle of the pack which is honestly where most things should be.

As for movement… it’s actually not as bad as most other casters. We have stellar drift to allow permanent casting while moving by sacrificing only some of our DPS by converting AP into maintaining starfall instead of just starsurges. Yes it’s a DPS loss to do so but you lose a lot more DPS by not doing it.

As for your GM not wanting a boomy unless your trying to be a world first competitor that’s just being silly (and straight up wrong for at least 1 of the fights). Boomy has fantastic ability to handle split adds(something that does happen in Nathria), as you said has middle of the road DPS so you’ll still do well, has full mobility while DPS’ing, and isn’t melee. Are there better choices to fill in non-essential slots? Sure but probably only 3 of them and 2 of those are prime candidates for a balancing (Spriest and MM hunter).

I do.

FAR better than you ever will.

Doubt it scooter pop

Melee run out of kicks. And you have partners. One of the biggest mistakes I see casters and healers make, especially when being focused by melee, is running for the sake of running. Sometimes standing to cast is perfectly fine. No sense in running around trying to “kite” while the melee has 100% uptime anyway. All you do is gimp yourself.

You do not want feral affinity. The match will be over by the time you try and cat somebody as boomy. No offense but you just need more practice against better players. Boomy hasn’t always been a traditionally strong 1v1 spec like feral but if you talent specifically for it, especially compared to bfa, you can do quite well now. The defense conduits will also help tremendously.

This isn’t true. If you do nothing, especially now, but spam dots to farm AP then you’re missing on out on huge dmg. Eclipse is very powerful; much more so than empowerments were. Sure you can do go’s but boomy’s rot and spread pressure is also very good. That’s why both DwtS and Owlplay are some of their best comps. Play totally differently but work.

Also guardian is certainly better most of the time, we’re in agreement there but charge can still be taken against some comps. I take it quite often.

Ya not really when you are a random battlegrounds player and ya I know “blah blah blah, game not balanced around the content you enjoy”

I would consider a new guild tbh
