After 15 years The Instance is no longer a WoW podcast

It won’t even be a Blizzard show. They debated calling it quits altogether but ultimately decided to make it a general gaming show from now on.

They laid it all out on their latest episode.

It’s really sinking in for me that WoW in a bad place. Sure, there was tons of negativity during BfA. But now I get this feeling that people are just not caring and actually moving on.

You can’t let your franchise get dragged around by it’s eSports and spreadsheet data.

Long slow dungeons - dead
PVP - no dedicated team
Complaints about weird gear caps - frankly that’s a skill issue

Apologies for the meme response, but… who?

Seriously, I’ve never heard of this. Who are they, what did they talk about, how often, etc.? I’m curious, now.

Did they only talk about instanced content, or was it also lore/game design, etc.?

I honestly never heard of “The Instance” before either.

But honestly, WoW is 15 year old game. Most games keep the same franchise brand, but develop different games off of it. (See: Mario)

WoW had a good run, a great run, but it’s either time for them to make WoW 2, or you will see even more people leave and the game fade out. Such is the nature of things.

i was sort of surprised at first, but once i think about it i guess it’s not all that shocking. there’s only so much they can talk about, not only right now when the game’s in a bit of a slump but after 15 years of doing the show weekly. wouldn’t be surprised if they’re just getting sort of tired of it or running out of material. used to really love listening to them every weekend though, they were an entertaining bunch

It’s been a weekly WoW podcast since vanilla. They talked about pretty much everything to do with WoW.

It was started by a cartoonist who’s had several different cohosts over the years who were interested in different aspects of the game.

They were massive Blizzard fanboys and the cartoonist even befriended Metzen.

Never heard of them. Also, why just focus on WoW when there’s other games out that have way bigger communities and outreach?

Tadpoles unite! Scott Johnson is the best.

Didn’t know The Instance was a thing to begin with.

One of the former hosts of the instance works or worked at one time for Blizzard. Randy something.

“Nothing lasts”

Things can’t last forever you move on and find something else

Looked him up. Randy Jordan. Apparently he left the show after getting a community management job at Blizzard. Appears to still be there 10 years later.

I only got into WoW in 2016 so he was well before my time. Lots of history with this show.

Kinda sucks but totally understandable. Been listening to them for a long time. Being a WoW podcast that’s been around for almost as long as the game has is a true feat of strength. I wish them the best in their new direction!
