Yes I know its inflated ladder blah blah, I’m not trying to show I’m a r1 multi glad - just want to share my experience playing MM hunter, just want to give my review of RSS.
First of all, I am somewhat of a new PvPer this XPAC. I have played previous XPAC’s but never for more than a month or two, and nowhere near this many rounds/games of the arena. For more clarity, this is the first xpac where I ended up actually fully gearing in Conq, whereas prior xpacs I would quit by the time i was half conq gearead,
So without certainty, I can say RSS has kept me glued to this game. I genuinely don’t really like the new expansion (DF), I find that there is nothing to really do. I enjoyed the general SL content much more, everything from SL raids to zones, etc… So there’s no doubt here that the one change that has kept me playing is RSS. Bless this addictive game mode its just so damn fun.
Just wanted to make this post to also mention a few observations. You may care, you may not, I think as someone who hasn’t really played WoW that much in the past, I have no copium here and no real attachment to the game, i.e how it was vs how it is now. Instead, I give a semi-casual-new player perspective (“new player” used lightly).
This is my rough take on my improvements throughout climbing the brackets.
- 1k-1.3k: Getting used to key binds and PvE rotation
- 1.3k-1.5k: Generally learning and recognizing all class abilities (big dam CD’s and defensives)
-
1.5k-1.8k: Learning when to use and rotate my defensives properly to live
through enemy CD’s - 1.8k-2k: Using interrupts and focus targeting (major game play improvement here)
- 2k-2.2k: Improving on positioning
- 2.2k-2.4k: Understanding end/long game strategies (dampening vs pumping)
All throughout these games and brackets I also developed some understanding of which classes were best to focus, how to play cs certain comps, etc… general knowledge.
Some further things about RSS I’ve noticed
- Boosting is a Non-Issue (cant recall any lobby with obvious boosters)
- AFK/Leavers are a non-issue (probably less than 10% of my games had an afk/leaver)
- Queue times are abysmal
And before I hit 2.4k I tanked back to 1700 so Ive spent a decent amount of my games in the 1500-1800 bracket - this is where (According to trolls) most boosters exist. In my experience, this is not true. Like I said, I cant recall any games with anything resembling boosting.
Finally, some last mentions about the inflation and rewards. This is what I will say. As a “new player” the way rewards were distributed with respect to rating is ideal. At every step of my RSS journey I felt like there was a reward to keep chasing. First, it was the 1800 set. At 2.1 it was the enchant. At 2.4 it was all the weapons. I felt this distribution was well paced, and kept me playing when I didn’t want to. So in terms of efficacy and attainability, it was spot on. I think the rewards (mogs and enchants) should be as easily attainable as it currently is (meaning no harder, no easier - exactly the way it is). I understand the really good players want a further reward to distinguish themselves, here they should provide the mount in RSS for % based top players. My point is that, even though the consensus is that RSS rating is inflated, the relative ease of attaining the rewards as they is currently great. If the rewards were any harder to get, the investment to get them would be questionable. I say this because I’ve been no lifing this game for the past month, multiple hours per day, and have just now achieved them. Theres simply no way I would no life this game anymore than I currently have. Yes this is just my preference, but the reward distribution feels very well paced to me.
Edit: I will make 1 final important point. WoW PvP is HARD. Like the barrier to entry is disgusting. You need hella keybinds, some (preferably just a few) 3rd party addons, and need to learn other classes almost as if they were your own. So the mere journey from 1k to 2.4k is not trivial by any means. Im obviously not a new new player, so I had already sufficed some of these requirements by the time I started DF. People who have been playing this game for a long time underestimate how difficult it is to get into PvP as a fresh new player, so how a player integrates into the PvP scene from 1k-2.4k in my opinion is crucial data (especially since we consider 2.4k in RSS the “entry level” meaning has a solid understanding of PvP).
