Afraid to try M+ 10 due to thundering affix

I ran keys up until and including +9 but I’m afraid to delve into anything over 10 due to the thundering affix. I’m a returning player and already have a difficult time with certain modern mechanics which significantly impact my overall dps in keys and raids.

I’ve gotten much better over the past month but I feel like keys over 10 really take it to the next level and most likely will require Discord voice chat to properly coordinate. I’m not big on Discord or voice chat in general, just use it for raids usually.

Anyway, how bad is thundering and can it be done without voice chat? I’m eventually gonna outgear the 9 keys…

I main ww monk btw if that matters.

You don’t need voice chat for thundering although it can be helpful for coordination, especially on high keys.

But, I do recommend getting a good weakaura to help you monitor the thundering debuff timer.

Don’t worry about messing it up and making mistakes. Even for people with high IO, I see them messing up thundering due to various reasons. As you keep practicing, you will get better at it. If it bothers you too much, you can just clear it ASAP when you get it.

I will say though, thundering is not a fun affix.

If you have DBM, it puts a mark on your head. At that point, you’ll know what you need to do to clear it and you can either clear at that point or try and milk the debuff for as close to the 15s as you can.

I’m a wimp so I clear right away. Try a +10 Shadowmoon. It’s pretty easy and will build your confidence.

Edited to add, there will be an announcement made in game and swirlies on the ground so you know it’s coming.

You can easily clear every key up to a 15 instantly cleansing the debuff, as far as seasonal affixes go it is the easiest to just completely ignore.

Honestly it’s easy - just clear it ASAP. The damage buff isn’t worth it. Have a ball? Touch a player with a tornado. Or vise versa. Soon as you get it - if no mechanic happening, do it. If you are dodging some mechanics, clear it immediately after the mechanic/when you can.

Issues only happen when people don’t clear.

If you’re range, sometimes you have to run into melee. Melee also need to be aware if a range or healer who isn’t paying attention and run out. Basically touch opposite ASAP = win

Not even needed. Use your eyes, look above your head. Then look above other players head. It isn’t complicated.

You should be able to do untill +12 easily.

no it’s not needed but it’s easier w/ it. It’ll also tell you you’re the last 1 and dont need to stack

Weak aura makes it really easy, with as much stuff flying around as it is I don’t want to waste more time trying to see blizzards awful default graphic

You can clear instantly and it’s not a problem till you get into 14s and 15s people then expect you to wait at least a little bit.

Never used discord for any mythic plus, I’m at +15 for my highest

just cancel it right away. it’s okay. running over wrong players does NOT zap you.

that or just tell your team to just cancel on you, so you don’t have to really go out of your way to do anything except worry about avoidable damage. OP you said you play WW monk, so since you’re in melee, you’ll always have someone that can do that for you

If you’re good enough to run to someone to cancel it right away, imo you clearly possess the skill to do the mechanic, and just need to practice…your confidence will build up the more you deal with it, and you’ll gradually hold onto the buff a little longer. :100:

yup.

when you’re doing +20, you might need it. at +10, just cancel.

I just ran my first +10 today (Life Pools), and OMG IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!

Not being sarcastic at all. This was insane. I have DBM, so you get a timer and an icon over you. Easy to control. Adds a whole new level of chaos to the run. I cannot wait to do the other 7 dungeons this way :smiley:

Thundering is pretty harmless.

Just avoid getting struck by the lightning aoes, and run to your party mates within… I think it’s 14 seconds to clear the (de)buff before you get stunned.

Honestly, avoiding those spiteful turds are harder.

Seen it all this season I swear. I’m a tank, had plenty of times where dps refuse to come to me to clear the buff, alright that’s fine I’ll come to you and the frontal cleave will kill us all… no problem at all my dude just don’t be upset when the key fails…

Well, that or the 4 second stun kills me, whichever happens first I guess LMAO.
