Afflictions lost identity and M+

Our dots are yet again modifiers for rapture, we are global starved and no one wants us in low keys. Our ramp takes too long. I’m not even being given the chance to go to low keys and I can’t blame them. What does a aff lock bring to a lower key that should make them chosen over a ret pally or mage?

You don’t choose a lock over a mage… they bring Lust. You play with them.
You bring cookies for everyone and brez x2
You can survive better than most because of a LoH every minute during combat with Soulburn Demonic Healthstone… and Unending Resolve and death coil.
You Circle gets you out of roots and undos knockbacks (eg GB, NW, Mists)
Your instant Soulburn Gateway gives your entire group an escape (SV, GB, Siege)

This is really the problem: this is all people see when they see a lock.

This honestly cannot be oversold. I genuinely believe locks have better survivability than even classes that have a Cheat Death baked in as the cooldown is usually quite long (6 min or so), whereas Locks are always tanky as hell and with fight knowledge, can trivialize so many mechanics.

A big adjustment for me was learning that Dark Pact is an amazingly powerful defensive cooldown when used proactively… and borderline useless one to use reactively. Like with Unending Resolve, you can still pop it at low hps, get healed up/eat a healthstone, and still benefit from it for its entire duration… but Dark Pact, you pop it at low life, it’s wasted and that’s all there is to it, but if used proactively, it’s insanely strong. It’s a very unique defensive.

Lock is arguably the hardest class to learn the toolkit for, but once you know all your tricks, are comfortable with your skills and have knowledge of the fights, you can survive some truly hellish stuff.

Its tool kit is kind of garbage. It feels terrible having to refresh all of those agony’s. Vile taint needs a CD reduction to make the spec feel more fluid

Oh I agree 100%, but I think that’s less the toolkit being garbage and more specifically Vile Taint and Cataclysm needing a redesign - this whole “only do AOE damage to whatever you can fit into a tiny circle every 30s” allows you zero ability to react if things don’t go as planned. The design needs to die in a fire.

Idk I think relying on rng for our spending resource is also garbage. Outside of sniping what are our other options for consistent shards?

Depends on the spec - I think Destro has a good flow and probably has the best feel there. Need shards, cast spells, get guarenteed fragments. The gen rate feels fair and you don’t find yourself casting a ton of fillers to get Shadowburns/Chaos Bolts/Rain of Fires going.

Aff I can agree with though - probably needs the most help there as you can literally be in a situation where nothing is about to die and you’re just waiting for RNG to give you shards so you can play the game. Makes playing Hellcaller Aff in particular feel terrible.

Demo is probably somewhere in between the two, though the increased rate of Demonbolts has really helped give it a good flow.
