Affliction Undermine tier bonus

I’m reading the tier set bonuses for undermine and Affliction’s at face value looks weaker than the other two, particularly in single target.

50% bonus damage on one dot. How is that going to keep up with Destro having 10 seconds of bonus mastery and FULL mastery benefit? Or demo getting an extra dreadbite with every hand of Gul’dan that deals 80% normal damage?

Unless it has a crazy high uptime, or if the extra stacks of UA can all stack on one target maybe?

Idk just reading the text it doesn’t seem like it’s going to do much in single target.

I think you might be late to the party friend. Blizz has absolutely no idea what they were doing or where they were going with affs tier set. It legit didn’t even work a few weeks ago.

Yeah I don’t follow upcoming stuff too closely, but I wanted to see the armor sets and then I decided to look at the set bonuses.

I’m really not seeing how 50% damage for 12 sec on one dot is going to compete with destro or demo in any way.

Affliction is my favorite spec and it just feels like it’s being left behind

Oh brother I feel you on that one man…If only I knew somebody at Blizzard I guarantee you I could fix the entire spec in a week and all we would need is number tuning.

If I recall the napkin math correctly, Aff’s 4 pc bonus is a mere ~1.3% of your total damage in single target . . .

Edit: After looking over Kalamazi’s recent dps testing, I realized my earlier calculation was based off UA’s damage contribution in AoE (and not including the UA spread component of the 4pc), mb

From Kalamazi’s video, UA is about 12.8% of your single target damage, season 2’s tier set included. Assuming the 4pc effect has a 40% uptime my napkin math gives us . . . a 2.2% total damage buff . . . and this doesn’t account for the haste buff from the 2pc either . . .

I think the obvious solution would be to make the 4 pc bonus scale up when it hits less than 4 targets (think Demo’s Doom brand back in DF), but that would require the devs to look away from Mages.

It seems to have something like 40% uptime roughly from my time spent smacking a training dummy.

When I first read it, I thought maybe the 3 additional UAs could all stack on the same target if you don’t have additional ones. But it doesn’t

You figure destro is going to get not only a mastery boost when they drop infernal, but 100% effectiveness from their mastery too. They will be able to deal some serious damage in that window either in AoE or ST.

Demo just straight up gets 80% additional damage to dreadbite every time they cast HoG. With the added bonus of sometimes summoning a greater dreadhound.

Their bonuses look so good. Afflictions looks very underwhelming, especially if you’re someone who raids and will have a lot of single target encounters.

That’s nice to know. Maybe the uptime will be high enough to bring it in line with the others.

Although demo seems to get their bonus 100% of the time. Just always getting stronger dreadbite as long as HoG is 3 shards

I might have to respec next patch :frowning:

The tier set proc can be a dps loss for Aff… proven through playing it. I think Kalamazi noted this too.

Aff is dead on arrival… far worse issues that T set bonuses

It’s a Haste Proc coupled with a flat damage amp and AOE spread. How is it mathematically possible to ever be a DPS loss?

I just watched his tier list from a day ago, he just states its lame in ST and mid in AOE.
Apparently Hellcaller is the way to go in 11.1 too, which I’m all for.

Anything besides a rework of aff tier is going to be complete garbage for the next six months.

I mean even if they do, the spec is simply worse than destruction in almost every conceivable way.

Yeah Aff is great. If you enjoy clunky, undertuned, unfun messes of a spec.

My biggest concern when I look at affliction is; What is its niche?

It doesn’t have one anymore. Even in fights with spread targets that cannot be stacked, where spread cleave/pressure should reign supreme, affliction still sucks.

Look at Silken Court. That fight should be afflictions bread and butter, but we get stomped by destro. Even in an encounter that plays toward all of our strengths we still aren’t good.

There’s literally no incentive to invite us to anything. Any situation where you think Affliction could do well, destro and demo do better.

I don’t need the spec to be top tier and smash destro and demo, but it would be nice if Affliction just had one thing it was good at.
