Affliction post buff?

Wanting to lvl an alt and love affliction, but wondering how bad it (still) is. Did the buff help enough to bring us up the ranks? Anyone noticing any significant difference in M+ content? Or still trash and not worth?

I chose to main a Devoker this xpac (mistake) so i’m wanting to lvl an alt that can pump some number in m+. My issue is i’d like to enjoy playing the class as well. I know im asking for alot here…

I can only finish to the meta.

Spec still needs a massive amount of help in m+.

In raid unless you are in a hardcore cutting edge guild the gap between demo closed enough its not a meme anymore but Demo is still the meta spec. You can play it and feel okay.

I am an Affliction one trick so your miles may vary.

if you’re doing just normal raids, maybe aotc later on while going for ksm…aff is fine imo. I compete well with my guildies and usually finish top 3 dps in raid, and most of the time, tops overall in mplus settings depending on the dungeon. Demo is still ahead single target, but aoe and cleave I do really well and usually beat most people. I do parse in the 90s for aff for normal content as well as keys in the 10-15 range, so usually will beat most ppl parsing in the 50 to 70 range of any other class. I’d say give it a go. Sure, the spec needs help, but not sure we will get it, seems melee is the catered to specs for the time being and tier.

I had posted on another one of these type posts saying I swapped to demo but honestly I don’t like demo in pvp. I love aff in pvp but demo is fun as hell in M+ so I guess that’s how I’ll play it out personally.

If you are wanting to swap to a warlock for the sole reason to pump harder than an evoker, you are making the wrong move friend. If you wan to pop off in keys, play a melee class or if you really want to play range, mage/hunter.

From what ive noticed aoe can pop off as aff if you have dark glare up. After that aoe is mediocre and the single target with an aoe build is still lacking. If pulls were to take advantage of soul flame on bosses. That would be ideal but most runs tend to allow breaks before boss pulls.

I simmed my character for all 3 single target specs and they’re all relatively close patchwerk. Demo is in the lead by 1k over destro, and destro is about 2k over affliction. (Not that this matters tbh, patchwerk doesn’t exist anymore)

I think my biggest problem with aff and is that yeah I can do comparable numbers to demo in AoE situations, but, once it comes to the boss it’s not really close.

With my aff build I can get probably around 27-30k ST on a boss but with demo I’m likely to be around 42k+ while still doing the same AoE.

Maybe this changes with set, but I doubt it, because demo set is kinda insane for m+

Which build?

Im no expert but my main character was a druid. Didnt like it so i switched to a fury warrior. Having fin with it though still working on mythics

In most simulations for my character (ilvl 385, no tier), affliction is behind demo in pure single target by 10%

When it comes to hybrid builds for things like tyrannical weeks or add spawn raid encounters, the single target difference is tighter. Demo grabs the majority of it’s cleave in a hybrid build, whereas affliction has to skip out on significant cleave potential to keep it’s single target competitive. Aff can however grab big contributors like Sow the Seeds, Soul Flame, and Wrath of Consumption without a huge loss. Keep in mind Soul flame and Wrath will not show up in Patchwerk sims, since there are no adds dying.

This is the demo build that I have ran this week during tyrannical and an affliction build I am looking to try in tyrannical soon.

Demo hybrid build: 52,403 Single Target BoQAbtPS25JQs0VfQSDmhm+p3ggkEJSg0SLCSLJJkSAAAAAQLSSSIBSiEJi0SicACAAAAAAA

Affliction hybrid Build: 45,001 Single Target (Excludes contribution from Wrath or Soul Flame)

The major disparity is when you look at how single target is affected in pure AoE builds. If I go into a pure aoe build for Demo, I lose about 15% on my single target damage. Affliction loses closer to 28% of it’s single target throughput in a pure aoe build, based on my sims.

Performance wise, affliction is just in a spot where it can’t excel in most situations like demo can, due to how impactful the capstones are.

Ideally, Affliction would get an aura buff of around 5% right now to bring it closer to demo. In future talent tree changes, cost adjustments to the row before the capstones would allow for more hybrid potential by letting Affliction gain 3 capstone traits. Alternatively, power could just be shifted out of those capstones to higher up in the tree to reduce their impact on pure aoe builds.
