Affliction Mythic+

Do we have to use drain soul? I feel starved for shards with shadow bolt. I hate channel spells so really dont want to use drain soul.

So I was thinking about trying some mythics this xpac instead of just doing pvp 24/7 what hero tree do pve affy locks use?

I’ve been mostly playing Soul Harvester aff with a little hellcaller mixed in. But i actually prefer using shadow bolt over drain soul now. Shadow bolt hits a lot harder, in addition to the amount of nightfall procs you get, it makes aff very mobile. Kinda wish there was some sort of clause built into shadow bolt where it would occasionally generate a soul shard though since i assume that’s the main reason drain soul is played more than shadow bolt.

Unfortunately if you care about sims or pulling the best damage you can, then yes. For keys you will want drain soul. To maintain shard upkeep try to have agony on as many mobs as you can. Be sure to use drain soul on a mob before it dies so you generate a soul shard from it as well.

I figured as much. What about raids? Can I get away with shadowbolt there?

For ST with hellcaller, yes. Shadow bolt is simming higher. Both with taking nightfall for reference. I hope they buff S bolts damage to make it better than DL, because it’s more fun than clicking a channeled spell honestly. As it stands DL acting as a pseudo execute on top of the shard generator if it’s being channeled on a mob that is about to die. It’s pretty strong in both those regards.

Btw, dear Blizz, give us back the ability to shoot out like 3 or 4 shadow bolts at once please. Even if it is just a visual glyph, it was cool as heck.

Soul Harvester, you want Shadow Bolt.
Hellcaller, Drain Soul.

Hellcaller is inherently shard-starved, SH doesn’t have this problem and it’s because it generates shards on-demand with Soul Rot making it a useful spell in both ST and AoE.

I truly think that Malevolence should also generate three soil shards upon activation to give Hellcaller on-demand shards for important windows. It’s a no-brainer to me.
