Affliction low DPS

I am not sure what I am not doing correctly as aff. There is a huge gap with the other warlocks in the raid grp. If any of you could provide any tips on what I am not doing or need to do would be appreciated. I will post my logs below from last night:

 https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/7fwdYD1NVPqHAWZg/#type=damage-done&boss=-2&difficulty=0

any specific fight you want us to look at

looking at sivarra kill, you definitely let agony fall off more than once, your uptime was in the 70s, as were your other dots. you CANNOT play affliction and let those dots fall, especially agony due to ramp up. secondly, not sure why youre running crit enchants, for single target you want haste and alot of it. im not entirely sure if you simmed your azerite choices or not, but i havent seen anyone running rezans fury. youre ideal setup (minus raid traits) on affy are 3WB and 3 CC. youre also running an ID trait yet you never actually casted drain life, thats a complete waste of a choice.

also your darkglare setup is completely off. your opening sequence should be as follows: prepot @2s, haunt as timer expires, agony, corr, SL, DSM, UA dump, PS, DG, DB. affliction is a 3m burst class, you need to have your darkglares set up properly or youre dead in the water.
IDK why but you waited 45s to cast DG, so it did not benefit from lust at all.

during sustained damage outside of CDs, just always focus on keeping 1 UA on the target along with haunt, and keep your dots up. you dont have to pool UAs outside of CD windows, just keep 1 up on the target for contagion and one in your pocket to extend CC

since i cant post links, take a look at my character on WCL and my affliction kill on H sivarra. look at the opening cast sequence for reference because that is probably one of the biggest issues im seeing

I used Ask Mr Robot and followed with its suggestions. I just recently changed my traits to 3 WB and 3 CC, so I am not sure if AMR is providing with info that is lacking thats how i got Rezans Fury.

okay well first issue found. never ever use AMR. use raidbots, they work consistently with the lock theorycrafters and have an open APL source. AMR does none of the above, its quickly becoming Noxxic levels of inaccurate.

Also, on lady Ashvane, you never once even casted your Darkglaire, I can’t begin to tell you how much damage you lost.

Memorize this, practice it, make it muscle memory. After that you need to look ahead for when in the fight DB and DG are going to line up. If its 30 seconds or less don’t cast DB, and start saving shards 10 or so seconds before DG comes up. Then you’re going to imitate as much of your opener as you can about 4-5 seconds before DG comes off CD to maximize DB dps.

There are Weak Aura’s you can get specifically for tracking ID stacks, use it between 40-50 seconds. The longer you wait the better, but more importantly is using it when you won’t be interrupted.

Completely unrelated, in a way, but a question that’s been bothering me for a while. Is it better to hold off casting DB until PS is off CD to capitalize on the extra damage or cast DB on CD, PS be damned? I can see the logic behind both and while waiting for the CD on PS to pop feels more intuitive, so too does casting DB on CD.

just pop it on CD, the only thing you might need is a fresh UA. this is pretty easy to do with a bit of awareness. also the big thing about casting DB on CD is it will always line up with DG if done properly, or be within 5s of DG, which is about the time you need to ramp your UAs into a DG then DB. occasionally youll have a PS be able to line up with bolt and thats nice, but its not worth the 15s wait at all.

My DPS is middle of the pack usually but my damage done is near the top…somebody explain to me

uhhh…are there secondary targets…?

I would just think that we don’t spike as hard as other classes but still if you’re top damage, you should be top DPS too

assuming same uptime, using details and not recount or skada, on a pure and simple ST boss, if you do more damage than another person overall, your dps will be higher because it would kinda have to be. we spike probably harder than any other class or just about. im bursting at 100k and the only person who keeps up with me is our rogue

edit: unless you were looking at moment to moment DPS in which case yeah things might look different.

Thanks! That’s what I figured, but I wasn’t quite certain and heard conflicting info in game. Both sounded reasonable enough. As far as the DG/UA goes? That much I knew but thanks for the input regardless.

Been playing Aff all expansion and I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the ST burst rotation…I long for the days of Aff’s niche being stable damage and rocking council fights. Not that it’s complicated but it’s not quite the spec I fell in love with anymore. Gonna keep up the good fight though.

apologies on the over input.

and yeah, after the first burst im still getting used to it too, and ive done alotttt of raiding on this spec

No worries! Never know who’s reading these forums so over input > under input any day.

Couldn’t muster the mental energy to read every reply, so sorry if it’s been mentioned, but something I noticed off the bat is that the red slot you have in your computation device trinket is completely useless in raids.

If you have revered with the Rustbolt resistance, I suggest buying the red punchcard that unlocks at revered and using that (including dedicating a keybind for it and using a WA to track its CD) as it works real well with affliction since we have short periods where we just spam filler, and so we don’t really have a loss mechanically from using it close to or on CD as quickly as possible.

Also, to the poster who poo-pooed using crit over haste, sims can suggest crit to be the superior stat for single target, mostly due to the nature of Heart of Azeroth essences and the aforementioned trinket effect scaling with crit and versatility, but not with haste or with mastery.

yup like a day after i wrote that response alotta my enchants and gems flipped to crit vers lol

Taking a look at Blackwater… everything seems to be completely off. First off according to wowanalyzer, you didn’t cast Darkglare in your opener at all and had around 7-8 seconds of complete downtime. Even for a Blackwater log, your DoT uptime is extremely bad on both this fight and Sivara. I suggest you post these logs in the Warlock discord if you haven’t already, and ill take a deeper look into them.
