Can affliction just get a little bit of love? They don’t need to be OP they just need some more razzle dazzle.
Unstable Affliction and Pandemic are really the only affliction runes that feel impactful. Everlasting affliction and invocation are super lackluster, and everything else is a demon passive. Haunt is OK I guess, but it doesn’t compete with meta form at all, and isn’t as consistent or hard hitting as chaos bolt.
Affliction needs an afflictiony ability that isn’t just a freebie for tank/destro builds.

just wait until 60 when you can go soul link with a decent amount of points into affliction. you’ll be good homie.
Affliction talents are weak in Classic. Soul Link doesn’t fix that. Our dots are ticking for 30-40 in PvP. We have a 1/3rd of the damage output of Shadow Priests. Warlocks are in a very bad spot.

I think Aff is doing “fine” compared to other classes, but is just not where Destro is for PVE. To me a lot of that has to do with the gear selection.
Some things I’d like to see is:
- Some type of aoe mechanic, like seed of corruption in either the WotLK or Cata version.
- Talents to reduce cast time of UA, maybe Shadow Mastery reduces cast time by .2 per talent.
- Maybe an increase to Siphon Life or Improved Drain Life also affects Siphon Life.
Other than that, I’m pretty good. To me ST is a great raid for Aff’s ability to move around and survivability with life drains. I also don’t use the pure “meta” Aff talent build or runes or demon.
Warlock was on the change menu this week so check tommorow
me when i lie so the developers buff my class
well melee hunter and survival are both hilarious memes in pvp aswell. odds are you will get one balanced and powerful pvp spec which is honestly enough balancing to ask from the devs. i understand lock dot damage is low right now though lock has never been a bursty class in classic rather a very tanky slowly kill you spec but i swear at 60 odds are locks will still be very strong.
I played Affliction from the last month of Vanilla, through all of TBC. I loved it. Just so I know which direction to take the conversation, are you more concerned with PvE or PvP?
I’m going to respond to your troll by stating the fact that corruption, curse of agony, and siphon life combined do less damage than a single dot from a shadow priest.
I’m also going to block you, troll.
cool hf blocking me but thats blatantly not true and you made that up, try equipping some items that increase your damage
UA dispel needs to be more punishing on the damage end, like one shot damage
Congratulations. Blizzard listened and did nothing to fix the problem.
buffing a rune that still won’t be used will save locks don’t worry

Always speaking from a PvP standpoint.
Oh good then its not just me.
I agree it would be better if it was more punishing, but I don’t think it should 1-shot.
Honestly I’d much prefer they made it so the DoT itself does substantially more damage but over a longer period of time and made it so it can only be applied to 1 target at a time. Having a casted-DoT that has to be spammed on multiple targets to achieve its potential feels bad. It legitimately just feels like a worse Void Plague currently
A longer duration would make dispelling it a more attractive option. Not hard to sit through an 18 second DoT, but if it was like 30 seconds it would be something you’d want to get rid of early because if you have to get rid of it later then you’ve taken 20 seconds of damage + the dispel damage. Or if you don’t dispel it early then you’re in it for the long haul to prevent the same dilemma. Idk if that makes sense, but I think it would feel much more afflictiony.
Only being able to apply it to 1 person would open it up to being a more powerful DoT without being broken since it can’t be applied to every person on your screen. We already have multiple other DoTs that can be (and are) spammed, so I feel like UA really misses the mark by being an addition DoT that works that way but while also being casted
He’s not wrong. The only damage boost you get from Affliction is 10% shadow damage at the bottom of the tree, 6% to curse of agony, and the nightfall proc.
When you compare that to what Demonology will get you damage wise, 13% more damage with a succubus and soul link, and a lot more damage from the pet.
Destro is basically only damage boost across the entire tree.
The lack of a 31 point talent in Affliction is basically what makes Affliction a joke.
I think there’s a good case for buffing the per-tick damage of every affliction DoT. Siphon Life is just tragic in the amount of damage it does, and I think that was probably originally the case because it was a 1:1 damage-to-heal. There’s no reason it can’t be significantly increased in damage but only return 25% of the damage as health (or whatever number is balanced).
It costs a lot of GCDs and mana to get a full DoT rotation applied, and that should have some level of protection. I would even be comfortable with having zero burst potential. I mentioned this in another thread recently, but on my frost mage, I expect to be very squishy and have low burst potential because of my amazing control and mobility. The same logic can apply to affliction warlock; hell, it’s in the name.
The elephant in the room continues to be PvE vs PvP balance. Unless there are coding limitations (which is hard to believe in this day and age), why can’t they set parameters for a spell to interact differently with players and NPCs? For example, Nightfall SBs could be 200% more damage to a mob, but not against players. This method, applied across the board, would allow affliction to be viable in raids and in PvP, without breaking either.
Someone please tell me if I’m missing something here.
All they need to do is… remove curses from the game or make it so it’s not 1 per warlock OR change curse of agony to bane of agony… and move incinerate to a different rune slot so we can all use pact if we want to. All of the sudden a lot of specs can be played without relying on a certain comp.
