Affliction in PvP

I’ve played warlock off and on again for a long time. Always Afflic. Mostly all PvP. I’ve always been a die hard warlock fan so for this xpac I came back to my lock. Our numbers in raids are obviously more then fine but what I can’t really put my finger on is our issues in PvP.

Yes we die way to easy, but is that all it really is? I like how the spec feels and it’s rotation atm but I also feel like its lacking a spark.

The biggest thing I’m asking I guess is what is one thing or maybe two things blizz could give us to fix this? Obviously we can’t have everything we want, so we have to be realistic. We’re at an amazing place PvE wise, so what do we need for PvP?

Cheers.

Affliction will probably be fine with 8.1 and the armor changes, if not I’m assuming they’ll buff/Nerf it after 1-2 weeks. We can go back to a rot and tanky build with the buff.

Damage wise we will be fine, having a spammable UA on a target is pretty sh!tty imo though. Having our healing spell being our burst damage via inevitable demise trait is also pretty meh, but there’s not much we can do about it now since I doubt blizz will change it. It’d be nice if haunt healed us again like it used to.

Utility wise were still the same we’ve been for awhile now. I’d love to get death coil and portal baseline with the talents just buffing them, aka take portal talent and it buffs your portal to grant you 70% speed for 5 seconds and mortal coil talent would grant 10% leech for 10 seconds or something. Also howl of terror back plz.

Yeah I agree. Biggest part of what I agree with on is how you said the inevitable demise build. I hate relying on that for arenas. Its a crappy feeling that it’s our only choice atm.

Honestly I kinda miss the old style drail soul as a burst making your dots tick faster. I’m not even asking for a dmg increase, just something to change how our damage feels. Without the inevitable demise build, in arenas or BGs its hard to really feel like a kill is “your kill”. With the old drain soul it was an awesome feeling to dot up the target then think “I’m about to wreck your day” then drain him for the kill. I miss that.

Affliction is pretty easy to balance, it really isn’t a rocket science. Current developer(s) are definitely cleave nerds.

  1. Port is baseline, not a talent. This will allow for mortal coil as a talent, or instant shadowfury, something along these lines.
  1. An on demand CC, currently Affliction is the only class without an on-demand instant CC.

  2. Not being based around a giant drain life, it’s a gimmicky play-style that we all hate. it’s funny for the first hour, and then you realize any team with a semblance of a brain will never let you get it off. We currently have ZERO rot pressure. You can 5 stack UA, phantom, dark glare, and deathbolt and force a defensive CD, but outside of a 3 minute rotation, you do virtually nothing but run and wait until you have 100 stacks of drain life.

I really could go forever, I’ve given up hope at this point about the state of affliction. It’s been rapidly declining since MoP, it had a peak in WoD and then has been a sack of garbage ever since. It’s frustrating.

The funny thing is, everyone just assumes that Afflic is fine because half the time were on top of the PvE DPS meters.
