Affliction in heroic dungeons

I realize it’s still early but I’m curious how everyone else who plays Affliction is doing in heroic dungeon?

I’ve only done a few and it seems pretty underwhelming.

Soul Harvester is absolutely fantastic.

The mobility feels awesome, between Nightfall, Ravenous Afflictions & Tormented Crescendo, and the Soul Anathema dot provided by your Deominc Soul packs a nice punch and makes Malefic Rapture feel good to press for the first time ever, and confirms my suspicion that it didn’t “feel good” before because it has no field presence.

Demonic Soul gives it that presence both in spell effect and damage.

Hellcaller on the other hand I find to be dead in the water for me.

Are you using drainsoul or shadowbolt?

Soul Harvester affliction is really strong. Problem is things die very quickly. Demo out performs in heroics tho.

M+ and raids affliction will be really strong.

Dont be worried about trash right now. Things die too quickly and tanks are pulling whole rooms and staying on the move so its hard to keep things dotted and such.

Bosses get melted with SH Aff and big trash packs can as well if they group up for vile taint and seed of corruption for even just a couple seconds.

Im digging it.

I think you guys are right about trash dying too quickly. This has always been an issue for me in the past where it looks like im not performing because everything dies so quick.

I guess with gear itll balance out and with keys itll be more viable.

Thanks for the input i was wondering if anyone else felt it was lacking

Shadow Bolt, I find it to be superior. Very consistent procs and it hits like a truck.

I’d only run Drain Soul on Hellcaller (if I ever did, it’s in a pretty bad state currently), because Hellcaller is quite starved for soul shards. Soul Harvester doesn’t have this problem.

I’ve been struggling with trash too but I think we need to stop worrying about it for now. In M+ trash will die slower and we can have more of a chance to shine there. But for now you should at least be obliterating bosses.

For dungeons I’m running Soul Harvester w/ Shadowbolt, and Vile Taint is good for dot spread. Then pew pew Malefic Rupture.

Ok I’m glad I read this post. I’m currently hellcaller and although I know stuff dies too fast atm… it was awful trying to get dots out, have enough shards to do anything (this feels terrible!!) which in turn left me drain souling things constantly for a shard and low dmg.

However if you do manage to have the shards and stuff alive it does perform well in parts

I’ll give soul harvester a whirl next.

Aff will always suffer in lower levels of content because Aff needs things to have larger health bars to ramp their damage. Other specs have the same issue. Wait till M0s open up or M+.

Edit: Heroic dungeons are a terrible way to review a spec in any way shape or form. Have faith. Aff is fine.

Hellcaller is cooler. Play that, you shouldn’t have a problem topping meters no matter what you choose.

Been playing soul harvester affliction and it seems pretty decent. Aoe is good, but things die too fast right now. ST is also really nice.

Ya this is tough. I mean. If i get lucky with a nice big pull I can go off. But then again if im with 2 geared melee dps…Im honestly a waste of a spot. Even in pure ST, many Melee still beat us. Ultimately the spec to me is just unplayable right now. ITs gonna be fine in Mythic plus where stuff stays alive for us to ramp but in heroics … play something else. Destro or Demo i find do way more in heroic dungs.

Soul harvester with shadow bolt for nightfall procs. With drain soul it just feels terrible.

It’s fun just because it gives me that mobility I don’t really have on demo, but honestly things just die too quick in heroic dungeons right now for it to really feel great for any of the specs. I think once the season starts and things last a little bit longer affliction will become more viable. Things (especially trash) die WAY too quickly in dungeons right now for you to really get a good feel of things other than where to position yourself to get ready for the next big pull. Don’t even get me started on how destro locks must HATE pugging because of how much damage their rain of fire does. :frowning:

In heroics I ask for big pulls every 1min and top dps, most of the time. But it’s pretty hard to do that with other burst classes like Arcane and Monks, so I guess playing Soul Harvester is a bit better in that scenario. But Hellcaller is very potent when you’re alligned with tank, I think it will be the go to for most of M+

I do Soul Harvester. The damage is insane. Only my husband on his Arcane mage competes with me for boss damage.

Trash? 2 million dps plus on packs is easy. Just pre empt where the trash will collect for soul rot and vile and pre cast at the likely location with a SoC on your primary and then spam MR and burst up to like several million dps easy. Maintain almost that too since stuff then melts.

Edit: Did Priory with my husband before work.

3.5+ million dps bursting in trash regularly. Lol

So I ran Drain Soul for the vast majority of leveling and runs, but I realized that Nightfall procs a ton and I didn’t have time to even use all the procs with Rapture procing too. Switched over to Shadowbolt and feels way better.
