It’s so wild that now when I visit the retail forums all the topics are about m+. Nothing about any part of the rest of the game. It’s so weird the difference between WOTLK and DF in terms of how the game is played.
Blizz should really cut all world content and raiding and just have WoW be a m+ dungeoncrawler game - at least for retail. It seems to be all you people want lol
There’s two main reasons that Afflicted is annoying.
It can be difficult to tell when they’ve spawned. There’s very little in the way of cue letting players know Afflicted has spawned. There’s a visual cue, but it’s easy to miss if the spawn is away from your camera. The audio cue is easy to miss; we need something like Raszageth’s voice lines in Thundering to make it more obvious that Afflicted have spawned.
Afflicted are somewhat difficult to interact with using party frames and name plates. Their nameplates are coded as minion nameplates, so you’d also have to deal with every Wild Imp your Demo Warlock has having a nameplate if you want to turn on Afflicted nameplates (barring some form of addon fixing this). Afflicted don’t appear on party frames either, so they’re more difficult to target. Afflicted can also be difficult to target when there’s large packs of mobs on top of them, or in Vortex Pinnacle, where they blend in with everything else in the dungeon.
M+ is a lot more popular than raiding or rated PVP. That’s why.
Well… one of my many addons is actually playing some kinda forewarning before they spawn. I finally figured out that it will play right before the swirlies start, so that you can look out for them.
idk if it’s a weak aura I popped in there randomly… or dbm… or LittleWigs… idk
I am intentionally ignoring WeakAuras or other addons because I don’t think Blizzard should make players rely on an addon to know when an Afflicted mob has spawned. We don’t have a very long time to deal with them once they’re up, so Blizzard should make sure we don’t need third party addons to know that they’re up.
Yeah overall Afflicted isn’t bad especially since like every cleanse in the game instant clears them
Like some others have said, if I have a complaint about it’s the poor indicator for when it spawns and the nameplates on them feel … less responsive than the incorpreal nameplates did.
Didn’t have much trouble clicking the incorp nameplate, but for some reason I click afflicted add a couple of times and it doesn’t register
Been enjoying them on my mage. Pretty much hard counters the new affixes, it feels like. Blink for Entangle, mouseover Poly for Incorp, mouseover Remove Curse for afflicted. Haven’t done too high of keys but they feel nice so far. Heck, if you’re quick on the draw with one of them, Remove Curse is up just in time to take out both. On my priest I have an extra talent for Phantasm or Shackle, depending. Haven’t healed this week but I’m not too worried about it.
I’m saying that Blizzard should design their affix so that it’s easily understandable without the use of addons. I think clear and easily understood mechanics are a hallmark of good affix design. And I think Afflicted could be improved so that it’s easier to understand when the mobs have spawned, and how to target them.
If you don’t think clarity is important, that’s fine! We’ll just agree to disagree.
OP you usually have good takes. You are obviously a good player.
However.
You seem to misunderstand what role M+ fills in WoW. M+ is peak casual content. It’s approachable due to scaling difficulty to the point that literally anyone can get into it.
It’s normal and natural for people to want to engage in it and to reap rewards that are outsize to their ability.
There was a time when M+ was a lawless wasteland of brutal difficulty. That time has passed, and the low skill players are here en masse and want their titles, mounts;. And monstrous Ilvl gear and they will complain if they run into any difficulty in this.
I totally get what you’re puttin’ down. I just think you’d get further with it, by going to the source directly and presenting your case. Twitter or some such. My tactic of bombarding the blue posts with my Arthas rantings might not work very well for what you are doing lol.
M+ as a whole is not peak casual content. Maybe the select low keys are, but those also don’t have to worry about affixes other than Fortified and tyrannical.
It’s 2023, not 2019. I understand what you are saying, but I assure you; the crying is going to intensify as the number of lesser skilled players continue their M+ journey not realizing that they should stop sub 10s.
There are simply far more people doing for more keys than there used to be. The demographic for this content has expanded.
I understand that, but that doesn’t mean Blizzard needs to cater to them because they can’t comprehend what’s actually going on and not freaking out and saying it’s “unplayable”.
I agree with you, but unfortunately we’ve already seen this with the removal of seasonal affixes.
I’d remind you that it’s still early in the season, these affixes are brand new; and people tend to overreact to everything other than their own personal ability.
I think that it’s just largely people crying on the forums. I’ve run several keys tonight and three chested a few of them even with only the healer really looking after the afflicted. It’s NBD really. Explosives was a free affix when we had that, this is looking to be exactly the same.
“Carry me” groups are rampant in LFG and always will be.
Do heroic Echo and count the number of DPS War, Ret, and DK leads there are with no experience or awareness setting AotC requirements. Same goes for evokers chasing Sarkareth.
If it was a drinking game it would kill a pandaren.
