Not really a role-player type, 90% of what I do is pvp, but getting into the feel, visuals, and overall lore of the monk class helps me enjoy the process of getting better at the game. It helps me become more “absorbed in the process”.
I’ve been maining Resto Shaman recently, but lvled a monk to 70 because I just love the visuals of the monks healing spells and the transference/zen meditation positions. Not really into the spinning/flipping kicks or punch’s, but I love what the monk’s healing mist’s look like along with the sound and overall feel of their healing abilities.
Especially the Yu’lon’s whisper talent where using thunder focus tea makes you blow out mist in whatever direction you’re facing for a few seconds. Most people probably don’t take this talent because it seems like you could spend the point somewhere better on another talent, and I probably agree but I love the way using the spell looks and feels in the game.
Question is do you guys ever find yourself taking talents that you know are not optimal, but enhance the experience because the way the ability looks and feels? It’s the same thing with Resto Shaman’s and a spell like “Healing Rain”. It may not be worth it in terms of what’s optimal for a certain spec, but I love the way the healing rain looks, sounds and feel. I think monk mist heals overall have the most satisfying look and feel.
I know this seems like a weird post, but I feel like I’ve always taken this kind of stuff for granted and just focus on the mechanical parts of the game instead enjoying the often beautiful world building and atmosphere of WoW. That’s what got people addicted the most in vanilla wow, overtime we seem to have lost sight of that and focused on a more and more fast paced and complex(often convoluted game).
Anyway, I usually complain and whine about the state of the game. I want to give blizzard credit where it’s due. I hope blizzard developers know that this part of the game is still important and many of us still take notice and appreciate it. I hope they keep abilities/talents like Yu’lon’s whisper and jadefire stomp in the game, knowing that even small touches on the visuals of obscure talents make a positive difference on the gaming experience.
