Advice on Professions?

So I’m planning on making three characters.

Human Paladin (Main)
Dwarf Priest
Gnome Warlock
Considering NE Hunter

Just wanted some advice on what professions to pick for a decent coverage of everything. My focus will be pvp, and maybe raiding if anyone wants me in their rppvp guild. So far I have narrowed it down to this.

Paladin: Alchemy/Herbalism
Priest: Enchanting/Tailoring
Warlock: Engineering/Mining
(Maybe) Hunter: Leatherworking/Skinning

I know eng on each character is ideal for pvp, but I think it will be fine to just have 1 eng. Also maybe it’s better to have enchanting on a level 5 bank alt? What are your thoughts on utilizing 3 or 4 characters to get some decent profession coverage?

I would put herbalism and mining on the same toon so you can farm both at the same time.

Oh okay, I didn’t think about that due to only tracking one at a time. I guess there is probably a macro to toggle back and forth, it is an excellent idea thank you.

I would say put enchanting on which ever you plan to main if you aren’t willing to spend gold on enchants as enchanted gear can’t be traded or mailed.

Oh, hmm that’s probably a good idea too. Thank you.

Originally many Paladins took engineering in order to have some type of ranged attack (explosives) or netgun to stop runaway Mobs. of course that would cost you the +15% gnome bonus so maybe just have the gnome make explosives for the Paladin but not all explosives are transferable.

It’s been a long time, but my recollection is that I ended up dropping LW for engineering on my hunter as LW didn’t really provide much. Engineering, on the other hand, gave me free premium ammo, scopes and jumper cables. In TBC, I went back to LW because the craftable pieces were more worth it then.

Ideally you should have Tailoring on both Priest and Lock. Priests get to make Truefaith Vestments at 57 which is arguably better than the tier 3 chest. Warlocks similarly get to make Robe of the Void which i think is equally as good not super sure. But its definitely way better than the tier 1 chest. Both of these are BOP. But you can drop tailoring after you make them if you want.

Thank you! So I tried to accommodate all advice given and this is what I have come up with so far.

(Main)Human Paladin: Enchanting/Blacksmith
Dwarf Priest: Alchemy/Tailoring
Gnome Warlock: Engineering/Tailoring
Night Elf Hunter: Herbalism/Mining

LW will be able to make a lot of fire resist gear for initial MC progression. You can make a lot of money early on.

very good advice and true. in retail i have had one character, my most played, herb/miner for the last few expansions and make bank. instead of running around farming herbs on one character, passing all those ore mines, and vice versa, you pick em all up at once.

That looks solid IMO. One other piece of advice, level your priest to 5 and then wait until you can craft the enchanting wands to level it further. Leveling with a wand is a whole nother ball game.

Thank you, and excellent advice as well, I will do that

there were, and are, addons, like Gatherer, that will likely be ported to classic(if it has not already) that show you all potential crafting nodes, whether you have tracking on for them or not.

Yep, and also, after you farmed for a while, you kinda have a feel for where all the nodes are.

I am actually going to enchant on my main, as you do end up with a lot of BOP items that will not be able to DE on an alt. Last I tested, BOP items can’t be placed in the vault. Just something to consider.

That said, you still could have the bank alt obtain all the DE resources you break down from a main and lvl up enchanting that way, but I think there are certain lvl requirements you must meet in order to get each tier of enchanting.
