Yesterday I finally got my first character to level 40 which was very satisfying. However the costs of learning the riding skill and buying my raptor mount took up almost all the gold I’d managed to save over that fairly long time.
So now I’m level 40 and I wondered if I could get some suggestions about building up another gold reserve at this stage. I should mention, some decent slabs of that gold came from a small number of fortunate gear drops that I managed to sell for decent gold. The rest came from just farming mats, questing and a gift of 25g from someone in my guild (for which I am very grateful).
So taking into account my highest level toon is 40, and Horde on a PvE server, can anyone recommend a few ideas to start making some more gold?
PS: I should mention, she is a skinner/LW, and I have a few alts in the 20s who are alchemists/herablists and enchanter/tailor.
Fishing is also really good to pick up. If you’ve got an alchemist you can make a bunch of mid range potions that people buy all the time, or need to make late game stuff. Oily blackmouth and stranglekelp for free action potions, firefin snappers for fire oil, and eventually if you stick it out with fishing stonescale eels and nightfin snappers are always good money makers
right now iron bar are sold for 10000 % of the normal price its the best time you will ever have to make gold tons of gold without having to be max lv or max profession.
Look up massive iron axe 50 gold . The price of an epic drop for an IRON axe. MAKE GOLD RIGHT NOW!
Congrats on getting your 60% mount! That’s the biggest financial hurdle you’ll experience whilst levelling, so don’t feel too nervous about having broken the bank to achieve it.
The 100% speed mount is significant but you don’t need it in the same way you need your 60%, so don’t even worry about saving to buy it the moment you turn 60.
Also bear in mind that the higher in level you go, the longer it takes to level and you’ll get more valuable drops (including vendor trash). That means more mobs between levels, which means you’ll be earning more gold between levels, and proportionately the rate of your outgoings to your incomings will decrease - allowing you to save more.
Making money is great but limiting your outgoings is more important for “making” gold while levelling, IMO. Make the most of your gathering profession, try to avoid frivolous purchases, and you’ll find saving gold will be a lot easier than it
This ^^^^ In your 40’s you can complete the fishing quests and start fishing up Stonescale eels in Tanaris. (hint - they run at night so you have to fish them during what is prime raid time basically) Level up cooking along with your fishing. Most cooking takes time, but not extra mats. Anything cooked vendors for more than the raw ingredients so it gets you a non-trivial amount of silver. Do this for ALL cooking mats.
As a LW check the market for leathers, scales, and armor kits on your server. See if it is worth it to put some up each morning. Consider making the armor kits that leveling players can use and selling for a reasonable price. If you make more via AH than from a vendor - call it a win.
There are also limited vendor recipes that you can check for and put on the AH for a markup. The markup is the cost of your time to camp/check/travel to the vendor.
General questing drops. Some items and recipes that drop can be quite valuable.
Oh, and anything related to resist gear needed for raiding. Not all of it is even level 60 and some of it is crafted. Plan ahead for new content opening up too and research what will be needed. Nature Resist is big for AQ for example. Living essences were needed for crafting if I remember.
If you’re on a PVE server, check times of day around Badlands (east of Kargath and mid-south) for Rock Elementals for Elemental Earths.
Those are going for 4g each on my server (due to demand for Greater Nature Protection Potions and Elemental Sharpening Stones) and you aren’t at risk of being ganked on a PVE server.
