Advice on KVM/Dock and WoW performance

I am getting an M2 MacBook Pro (specs will be below) and I am retiring my poor iMac Pro 2017 as I think I won’t get past this memory leak issue. I also have a frankenbox (specs below). What I want to do is, instead of two separate systems, have one main monitor and flip between the Mac and the frankenbox, while predominantly using the Mac for playing WoW. While it would be nice to be wireless on the keyboard and mouse, I understand that it’s not easy to pull off on a shared hardware system.

My concern is any introduced latencies while gaming due to whatever esoteric configuration between dock and kvm switch I need to set up. Does anyone have any recommendations for the necessary hardware? Is there anything I should be aware of/concerned with with a set up of this nature as it relates to playing WoW?

Monitor - looking at an LG 27”

MacBook Pro

  • Apple M2 Max with 12‑core CPU, 30‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine
  • SDXC card slot
  • HDMI port
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • MagSafe 3 port
  • Three Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports with support for:
    • Charging
    • DisplayPort
    • Thunderbolt 4 (up to 40Gb/s)
    • USB 4 (up to 40Gb/s)

Frankenbox:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
  • MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard
  • GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER

And yes, I could play WoW on the PC, but a) I prefer the Mac and b) I would still need to set up the dock/kvm and I would then have concerns about latency on the PC (which is off topic).

I have a 2019 Mac Pro (AMD 6900 XT) and a 2009–>2010 heavily modified Mac Pro (nVidia GTX 1080) and run them through an IOGear KVM box (model GCS 1932) hooked up to an old Apple 30’’ which is driven through a DP to DVI DL converter. Works fine, but the KVM switch eventually gets confused after about 25 switches. I use a hardwired mouse and keyboard. I do seem to notice a slight increase in latency when using the KVM switch, but it’s not enough to be an impediment.
By the way, you can avoid the leak on the iMac Pro by running Monterey (though I won’t vouch for anything past 12.3.1).

USB KVM Hub is what I use to switch between my M2 Mac Mini Pro and my PC to game with.

I also use Synergy software to use 1 mouse/keyboard at the same time for both machines (I wouldnt use this method for gaming though, some input lag may occur)
