I’m one of those masochists who like to level multiple of the same class. I leveled the one I’m posting on as Destruction the entire time. Got to max level. Unfortunately about a month after TWW launched, Hellcaller got nerfed, and the forums essentially said “Hellcaller is dead, go Diabolist.” I checked WoWhead and I saw the Hellcaller change, and decided to level some alts because I didn’t really want to learn a new hero talent, as lazy as that sounds.
Anyhow, I’ll be leveling another Warlock this time, on the Horde as a Goblin. I want to go Demonology this time as I feel it’s the least popular and the black sheep of the 'lock specs.
What advice can you guys give me? Any special macros? Any macros for controlling your demon, and so on?
I tend to macro petattack to most of my offensive abilities. You generally want the felguard to get into the fight ASAP. With these macros, you do have to be mindful when manually repositioning the felguard (as spamming the macro will cause the felguard to charge back in), but I think it’s more useful than not. For example:
#showtooltip Call Dreadstalkers
/cast Call Dreadstalkers
/petattack
It’s a bit overkill but I did this for shadow bolt, demonbolt, and hand of gul’dan in addition to dreadstalkers.
Leave the manual controls for the pet bound, too (attack, follow, and move here). Keep an eye on the ‘threatening presence’ for the felguard because the game likes to turn it off for you in instances, which you might not always want.
I think current demonology is a ton of fun and it’s what I’m playing as my main class/spec combo. Not sure from this post if you are going Diabolist but it fits thematically and is a lot of fun, too. Can’t comment on how “meta” it is because I mostly do solo/small group play these days.

Demonology is a “gcd efficiency” spec, the more you can do in the lower amount of presses the best.
Imploding 10 imps at once > Imploding 10 imps in 2 implosions of 5 because you save 1 gcd, and 1 gcd is 1 shadowbolt, who is 1 soulshard, who is 1 imp and 1/3rd of a hand of guldan.
Similar theme exists on other spells like Hand of Guldan who deals 1/3rd of its damage and summon 1 imp with 1 shard, 2/3rds and 2 imps with 2 shards and 3/3 and 3 imps with 3 shards.
Shadowbolt and Demonbolt? if you are standing still they happen at the same cadence (1,5s cast vs 1,5s GCD) but one does 2 shards, the other 1.
Even doing an ideal tyrant is all about gcd efficiency, who will make the difference between you having 6 imps and 11+ imps in that tyrant.

Learn your Burst Setup, practice it, prepare for it before the tyrant cd comes, execute it as its getting ready and press tyrant before any demon expires.

The Lower your CDS( and Demo Tyrant is a very short 1 min CD) the more important is that you don’t hold it…the more you wait/hold to cast your CD the more uses you lose of it as the fight goes on.
4 - Remember your tyrant adds +15s CD to your other pets, this means it doubles or more than double the power of them…you dont want to miss a VF, GFG or Dogs from being extended by tyrant.

I’d recommend checking out Kalamazi’s webpage and youtube channel.
