Adventurer Class Speculation

Undercover sources are reported to have seen something strange on the Libram and Staff of the Abyssal Cult items in WoW MoP Remix. The class requirements for these Priest items, apparently, read Priest, Adventurer.

Does this mean that the Adventurer class could one day be coming World of Warcraft?

Experts say this is unlikely.

“We’re all already adventurers in a broader sense of the word, and the broad sense of the word makes tying down a class fantasy fairly difficult,” said a private commentor.

However, the adjacency to Priest does make things more interesting. Perhaps these Adventurers were once Priests who, after turmoil and years of warfare, have turned their back on their faith? Like another major lore character who is featured in an upcoming expansion? Adventurer is specifically listed on only these priest weapons - no other armor or weapon as part of these class-specific arsenal lists this additional class. The Scepter of the Abyssal Cult, the third and final Priest weapon, also does not list this class.

As of now, our research has revealed no further indication of an Adventurer class. Blizzard has suspiciously declined to comment further.

“Adventurer” is a pretty generic hyper broad name and wouldn’t really make much sense to be just a former priest only. It just seems very arbitrary. Too arbitrary to justify. Especially if they can’t wear the priest set too.

There are some generic reasons this might be there that are boring, but if I had to throw my hat into something wild that is could actually be coming? They are going to come out with a new seasonal mode much like Plunderstorm and MoP remix where you adventure around not as a class but as an “adventurer” and you can mix and match abilities from most or all classes. Why it’s tied to priest only there? Simply a mistake as it’s supposed to be hidden.

I imagine the priest thing is either
A. They’re clothies which would be strange
B. It’s a placeholder thing. I worked games QA (not on WoW) for a while and I’ve seen a lot of stuff like that. When devs test something they’ll often just take an existing class/character/weapon ETC that’s at least vaugely similar to what they’re working on and use that as a test bed. What’s probably happened IMO is they probably copied the priest class then modified it for the sake of testing. Alternatively they wanted to test these weapon types for the adventurer and rather then flagging EVERY SINGLE weapon in that category they simply chose one or two and forgot to revert things. My first thought when I think of adventurers is a guy with a weapon in one hand and a torch/lantern in the other. Perhaps they intend this class to use offhands with torches and stuff.

Another idea in my head is adventurer remind me of archeology which has been abandoned these last few expacs, maybe there’s plans to tie that into this class?

I will point out that when we were all playing Plunderstorm, our class was labeled “Adventurer.” Whether or not this is connected remains to be seen.

An interesting development.

Yeah I don’t really think that adventurer is coming. Still, struck me as odd, you know?

I’ll be honest I didn’t even know plunderstorm was a thing lmao

This seems like a typo or a placeholder.

I feel like “Adventurer” is too vague to be a class name.

I’d love if Adventurer was a War Within take on the Legion Bodyguard mechanic.

Gear drops with ‘Adventurer’ can be used by players, or equipped to an Adventurer Companion. Gear, training books and quest-lines could allow you to mold your Adventurer companion into what works best for your playstyle.

Do you have an apprentice who mimics what your Class can do? A beefy Warrior who can tank for your squishy? A Priest to keep you healed up and cleansed of disease as you rampage through Goldshire the depths of the earth? Or A keen-eyed thief with a crossbow who’ll find and disarm traps and open treasure-chests for you in exchange for a cut of the loot?

I used to be an adventurer like you.

Then I put an arrow in your knee.
