Hello everyone, this morning i decided to do all the dragon riding stuff,
The beginner courses, were pretty easy to get on gold.
However… some courses on advanced, seem near impossible… on Ruby life-shrine advanced, i spent a solid 30 minutes, and the fastest i could get it to was about 1.2 seconds too slow, and i mean i did everything perfectly, surga forward spamming the whole way there… I think the time nerf might be too big on the advanced races…
I saw a youtube video of Beta, and that race got reduced by 8 seconds for live.
Thats one example, so far ive only been able to get gold on 2 advanced races in The Waking Shore, the rest are silver because they seem almost impossible to get to gold
Hey there,
Gonna have to disagree with you there. Just finished off all the advanced level races a few minutes ago, so they’re definitely doable. They’re a challenge, as the name suggest, but extremely rewarding when you get it right. Other than PvP, I never thought I’d get this level of fun and intensity from WoW, so I commend Blizzard there, good bloody job!
A few tips:
- You need to identify where you’re losing momentum and keep your surge for those moments rather than using it earlier.
- You’d be very surprised at how little you actually have to use Whirling Surge; and when you do, it’s been extremely telegraphed by Blizzard when they give you two or three vigor orbs in a row.
- Speaking of vigor orbs, if you miss more than one or two, you’re going to have to reset your run. They’re extremely crucial to succeeding.
- You’d also be surprised at how powerful Skyward Ascent is; don’t neglect it, even in places you think you wouldn’t use it. Combo-ing Surge and then Skyward Ascent is insane.
- Zoom out as much as you can, it really helps with anticipating what’s coming next.
- In a similar vein to the previous point, I found applying my experience in IRL/Sim racing very helpful. What I mean by this is look at the next upcoming turn, not your current turn (hoop). You will subconsciously begin turning smoothly for your next hoop.
- Lastly, I believe there are already video guides on achieving gold in advanced. If not, I’d be happy to upload some reruns of mine so that you can replicate what I do.
Doing these races will make you a much better Dragon Rider and teach you the fundamentals of conserving momentum and Surge timings. This has helped me massively with navigating this amazing continent.
Hopefully this helps, best of luck to all you Dragon Riders!
You should definitley upload a video! the one i saw on youtube, their times were incorrect and longer(beta im assuming)
I’ve completed all of them on gold and I will say while they are very hard to do without getting most of the sigils to unlock the tree they are all doable after you do so (completed before unlocking whirling surge, etc). I only used skyward ascent on a couple of races that needed it, the rest the time just needed to not run into anything (accidentally hitting/landing on a tree or rock sucks), make sure you’re hitting the orbs and try to keep a surge in reserve on some of the races so you have it at necessary points.
/PSTD about Spyro’s Speedway Races intensifies.
And here I am scratching my head trying to figure out how to get back UP to the Ruby Pools without full vigour…
Do you get something from doing these advanced races?
There’s different rewards for completing them all at the different levels (bronze, silver, gold) - the reward for completing everything (normal and advance in all zones) gold is the isles racer title… most of the other rewards are dragon cosmetics.
I did one zone in all gold, when I am bored again I’ll do them later.
Thanks!
