I mean that’s not surprising. You tell people something is going to be removed, or may be in short supply and people panic buy. Of course the person who was thinking “Maybe I’ll boost because I don’t want to level” is going to pull the trigger.
My guess is boosters will probably start scalping them on prices too, and slowly drop prices as last minute sales.
And that’s their choice. I really have no sympathy for people who play Classic and don’t like the way it plays. Neato, it’s Classic. We knew what we signed up for.
But hey, to that extent players found out they could boost and did it, can’t fault them for taking advantage of something Blizzard didn’t act upon until now, but conversely I don’t think players have much to complain about that Blizzard is finally acting upon it because it really throws shade at the fact that the way the game was designed for this time period was that end-game wasn’t the end all be all (even if some people think that’s all that matters).
-Willing to play the entire game
-Hah, you don’t enjoy the game
-Will only play one specific part of the game
-Hey now, I actually enjoy this game
Ok my guy.
some people want this game to die for their own satisfaction.

WoW Hobbs did not mass pull slave pens or shadow labs back in 2007. He would have died in the first 10 seconds of getting melee’d. Mages have invented convoluted ways of pulling such that they can ignore any interaction with the mobs they are fighting. As long as they can dance the mobs back and forth, it doesn’t matter if the mobs have one trillion hp; it can be done. That is not intended game design.
The only reason boosting exists as we know it today is due to pathing bugs in the game that allow for ‘dancing’ on terrain, where one jump leads to a round-about path for the mobs, when it reality they should just walk up and one shot you. Don’t strawman by saying boosting like this existed in TBC because it most certainly did not.

You can come back and call me out on it later if WoTLK flops, but it’s probably the most popular expansion this game has ever gotten. Pretty sure we’ll be fine.
Would you look at that, no pathing bugs!
“Don’t cite the old magic to me witch, I was there when it was written”
I’m fine with TBC-era or current content not being boostable, my point was slated more towards classic-era content.
I don’t actually know what goes on in slabs/slave pens boosts but the methods used to do classic era dungeons are legitimate at least.
Also not to counter your post, it is possible for paladins to do the same thing mages are doing but probably not at a rate people would pay for.
they’re addressing pally boosts also since you cant get exp with a high level and all low levels
Oh hey look, a level 80 death knight in a level 60 instance! Wow this is totally relevant!

There has never ever ever been a problem with people going into low level dungeons and face-tanking down mobs in a massive pull. There is a problem going into current level dungeons (e.g. slave pens, slabs, botanica) and AOEing down the mobs. The game was designed for that death knight to survive those attacks. The game was not designed for one level 70 mage to survive pulling 50+ elite level 63+ mobs in Slave Pens

what your going to likely see is a mass exodus of players to private servers, brought to you curtosey of Brian, he’d much rather everyone go play warmane, instead of paying his salary.

Yeah, it is relevant since you were talking about boosting… unless you think SM, Mauradon, Strat, and Slave Pens boosting isn’t a thing, in which case you shouldn’t be sharing your opinion.
Considering they are nerfing all forms of boosting and not simply fixing the pathing bug in slave pens / SL and leaving the lower level content boost-viable then it is in fact relevant.
but it seems like we are almost on the same page.
people were fully aware of the aoe capabilities of mages, there was a boost in slave pens but kept more quiet because it was much more of a “clever use of game mechanics” than the current boost is.
It required a paladin and a mage, and using the 60 seconds before getting teleported out of the instance when you leave a group.
SM, Mauradon, Strat
Back in classic these three were exclusively done by using terrain exploits. None of these three could feasibly be done without them. Keep that in mind.
Slave Pens
Essentially only done with mages using terrain exploits (jumping on and off a ledge). Paladins can probably do the same pull with an 100% block set but I doubt it.
Fix terrain exploits and you decimate boosting of almost any kind.
truly out of touch. ppl do not want this change at least not the majority is a very vocal minority. ppl wanted rdf, you ruined it. SOM was not a success by any metric. why would you do changes that killed a game on a non dead game? you know what this does? ENCOURAGES rmt, you just took half the mage pop way of making gold to be able to raid/play the game lmao. guess time to just queue arena and do nothing else. gj blizzard.

I think the SoM changes will have a positive impact on people actually running groups again in lower level dungeons. The player base is there but they don’t play together because they’re all AFK in boost runs. I hope that, after the initial inevitable backlash, those players start forming groups with each other again.
With that said, please keep the level range reasonable. People should still be able to play with their friends and not have to be super close to their level. Dungeons such as BRD have a very large active level range, so as long as people who would normally get XP from that run can all play together, this should be just fine.
One last thing to note… this change will cut down on the advertisement spam in LFG channels and that’s a very welcome change; however, a large part of that spam will be replaced with people legitimately looking for groups. This is a good thing but on populated realms (which is what we should strive for), it can be hard to find what you’re looking for. Please consider either of the following…
- A retail style LFG interface where you can advertise a group and people can join it. No automatic port, just a listing.
- Better support for both humans and addons (such as LFG Bulletin Board) to parse chat channels. Perhaps, similar to how you can type {circle} in chat and the circle icon appears, you can type {deadmines} in LFG and it will appear like an item link. Not only does this make the dungeon stand out more for people who want to read the chat themselves, it makes the text easier to parse for addons.
Anyway, thank you
*EDIT: I see there are plans for an LFG tool in WotLK already. Nice!
Too little to late with the mage boosting but glad to see it happen eventually.
All that’s left in classic is raid logging Andy’s on 4 servers (22 server closures after only being out less than a year is actually impressive).
there wont be anyone leveling, that just got destroyed, but I’ll gladly ask how much gold you got on your account if you need help with getting a dungeon quest done, you can trade me all your gold across all your toons and I’ll gladly help you.
