We know, by most accounts, the next expansion is dragon themed with a heavy focus on the dragonflights. In addition there have been datamined cloaks in game that I’m just going to say will most likely be dragon wings (5 cloaks, 5 dragonflights).
So with that said, it’s inevitable we’ll start seeing dragon in disguise guilds popping up. Certainly if we get a draconic race (I don’t think so honestly), but could see a dragon themed class (or class spec). People will get pumped for dragon RP.
Normally roleplaying a dragon has been looked upon with a bit of distaste. It is lore-supported, but in my experience, it’s been akin to someone roleplaying Bolvar’s third cousin or a dreadlord disguised as a gnome.
What is everyone’s thoughts on this eventuality? How will you feel when you start to see TRP’s with “Daughter of Alexstrasza” or “Wrathion’s lieutenant” or “Ysera’s dreamcaller”?
I know there have been folx roleplaying dragons before (both good and bad), but are we prepared for a boom in dragon RP?
Same way we’ve inevitably dealt with the flood of Deathknights, Worgen, Demon Hunters, Blood Elves…
… You know. The same thing that happens every time. Which is, you know… The we all just keep going about our days cause inevitably it doesn’t mean much of anything.
I loved the “All the World’s a Stage: So You Want to Roleplay a…” series that Anne Stickney from Massively used to write. I did a quick search and didn’t find any, but wonder if anyone’s come across a particular good one? I recall a great one about Farstriders (and why you shouldn’t call yourself a “Ranger General”).
One of my older toons was an undead warrior I RP’ed as a Vargul Berserker via Growth effects.
Had a pointed interest in fighting dragons. Maybe I should pull him out of retirement and have him start challenging dragons to wrestling matches. Could be fun.
If I were take a swing at a dragon I’d make it sort of like a really enthusiastic entomologist. Just fascinated by these tiny, short lived creatures and their going ons.
That was my thought as well, I feel like it’s been many years since anyone looked funny at Dragon RPers. I don’t RP one myself, but the state of this game and its lore has kind of been a “screw it, just have fun… who cares” sort of thing since WoD.
It’s frowned upon? I see them all over Org, with one being a purified black dragon who makes no attempts to hide it. She seems nice! (And I’m being genuine here)
It’ll probably upset a few cliques/RP veterans/guilds at most. I like to think most players can curate their RP experience, even in the chaos of city RP to an extent!
Indeed. WoD really was a bit of a tipping point from a “Purist” Angle. Once alternate dimensions started getting involved and the demons began invading Azeroth in literal Starships…preventing someone from roleplaying a Dragon (When Dragons canonically have been established as being able to take mortal form) seemed bad taste.
Dragon Hunter RP guild but you’re a dragon in disguised attempting to destroy the organization within. Except plot twist everyone in the guild is a dragon in disguise unaware that everyone else is a dragon in disguise and it leads to silly dragon hijinks
gharial confession moment: I’ve had a few ideas for dragon characters but the question I always get stuck on is “what makes a GOOD dragon character,” or the inverse on what makes one a
