No, you arent going to stop jack squat, until you go back and re-read
and read every single solitary word.
Then read it again until you actually understand it and stop making
knee jerk posts.
How could they assess the relative effectiveness of transfers and character creation locking on a server that it was never offered on, but was still layered?
Effective data analysis takes aggregation over a significant sample. In the cases of some servers currently layered, this did not occur.
OK, I’ll bite: What meaningful “impact” would localized sharding of the 2 main capitals have that a) layering would not present, and b) would not be just as avoidable as joining a group/raid, as with with layering, and lastly c) would be any different than what a typical raid night in Orgrimar looks like, with players blinking and phasing in and out all over the place?
Probably because they looked at the some metrics like number of concurrent logins, length of login time etc… and saw both those trending up and acted proactively for some realms.
Yet these are only two KPIs, without taking into account others based upon alternative solutions.
Just because two KPIs display a trend doesn’t mean alternative solutions may exhibit a negative correlation to said trend and improve their server access KPI, as we saw on Incend.
I didn’t want layering back, and I feel like removing queus entirely is counter productive towards maintaining a healthy realm population (since the queu is the incentive to then get off said realm, and without it, players are favored, or even encouraged to stack high pop realms)…
BUT… at the same time it’s been a significant strain getting people online for scheduled raids when they have to start logging on 5+ hours early just to be “on time”… and with removal of character creation on specific higher pop realms the problems can be mitigated…
Obviously not an ideal scenario Blizz, but a necessary one to take given the extraordinary circumstances we are facing in the world, and the resulting corona virus related in game population explosion.
I’m not typically prone to tossing you guys out “atta boys”, particularly in the past number of years, but this truly seems like a necessary evil, and one of the best all around solutions, so job well done.
I’m sure they looked at more than two metrics, those were just two easy examples. They also were able to see exactly how many people were actually taking free transfers.
And as I said this isn’t really a wait and see situation right now.
There were no free transfers, and still are not, for some currently layered servers.
If your argument is it didn’t work on some of the other servers, the same can be said for the counterpoint - that it did work on some other servers.
And there didn’t need to be for them to see that free transfers are not an effective solution.
It was effective for Incend.
It was effect ive for Incend.
And it wasn’t effective for other servers.
The point you are using is quite literally the same point that I am.
“It didn’t work elsewhere, so it wouldn’t work at all.”
Compared to
“It did work elsewhere, so it may have worked here.”
Thus, servers that never received transfers may have been alleviated by them.
There is no reason servers layered should not have transfers off.
Right but that would have required a wait and see approach which would have taken more time. And would not have resulted in no layering at all.
So they acted proactively and just bit the bullet and turned on layering for potentially problem realms.
That said I do agree that layered realms should have free xfers off for people that completely blow the impact of layering out of proportion.
Layers facilitate mega servers, which will always cause issues with a game that was never designed for them.
Only if you keep letting more in, causing more and more layers to be needed.
Yes, that would be a mother of a problem, you’d never get rid of it.
But if you lock the doors, no one new comes in.
Then temporarily institute layers until you do not have a majority of the games playerbase online all at the same time for 16 hours of the day because they have nothing else they can currently go do, you have addressed the immediate issue, and stopped it from becoming worse.
Now you have time to both watch, and plan.
When the immediate issue goes away, some of these realms may need to remain locked even after layering is removed while something is worked out for the long term betterment, though i foresee anything like that garnering a ton of player pushback.
I mean, like you kinda said before, Blizzard could fix it, but with a Draconian approach.
Which would not float well.
Look at the people who advocate things like increasing realm limits to 20k
Aside from not actually being possible, could you imagine trying to play with 20,000 people in your realm in the vanilla game world at the same time?
When we get to try an fix it ourselves, we collectively make terrible choices
What steps are being taken to ensure realms with layering won’t get double the black lotus spawns?
If none, why are overpopulated realms being given benefits that non-overpopulated servers dont get? Is this not going to cause more people to want to move to these realms since they have benefits and creating more layers means more benefits?
What steps are being taken to ensure realms with layering won’t get double the black lotus spawns?
None, each layer runs it’s own events.
If dragons spawn independently, i imagine lotus does also.
So BL prices might drop.
Not exactly a terrible thing unless you are a gold farmer.
why are overpopulated realms being given benefits that non-overpopulated servers dont get?
Non overpopulated realms have 0 need for layering or any of the headaches that come with it, like Ony buff lockouts, or figuring which layer your friends are in.
Is this not going to cause more people to want to move to these realms
Absolutely not
Because those realms are also locked
You can not transfer in, and you can not create new toons.
I can’t play on my friends server now. Great. Goodbye sub.
I can’t play on m y friends server now. Great. Goodbye sub.
Why can’t you?
I am guessing he just now, AFTER the announced locks Multi hour queues etc, decides he is going to transfer to a full server, adding to the problem?
@ziryus
My friends server is benediction now population locked. I am on Whitemane also population locked. So neither of us can xfer, create a toon to play together, etc.
EDIT: for context I came back to the game yesterday and we were discussing where to go. Apparently the answer was to unsub to wow and not play.
