Addressing Population Concerns in WoW Classic

But your proposed solution of transfering is also a huge change in game play.

Oh no… a few more world dragons die every week, boo hoo…

In what way? The smaller servers have no changes to population infrastructure. It’s a non-change.

The world bosses are a minimal consideration as to why layering is a poor solution.

Thanks for pointing this out.

I’ve seen a lot of people swear up and down this is the best idea, but I was sure it wasn’t as easy as flipping a switch like people were claiming.

Good to see you confirm this was actually a bad idea.

So then why don’t you transfer to one?

You are claiming transfers are so non impactful, so do it

As mentioned, this is definitely a consideration. This has only been in effect for a short duration, and we’ve begun speaking with the guild about it to determine what everyone thinks.

Thus far, it’s either: let’s abuse layers to compete and profit, or swap =P

Yeah well you can’t anticipate a global pandemic that forces people to stay home and play video games at a much higher rate than normal either.

Whelp let us know what your guild decides.

Layering on their current server or transfer enmass to a non layered server. And there are plenty of them.

Kind of sucks when your argument of if you don’t like this server reroll or transfer works against you?

No? Transfers aren’t some dreaded solution, we’ve done so twice en mass thus far.

But layering only solves the problem of que times. And now that Blizzard removed ques no one is going to consider transferring even if they have free transfers. My server is now layered but with no option of a free transfer, there is no chance that I would ever be able to convince my guild to pay to move multiple characters to get to a non layered server. Not to mention some would either have to try and talk their ranking team to transferring too or then struggle more to rank after the move. I actually just feel like Blizzard is taking a giant dump on me. Either forcing me to live with layering or give up my guild that I super care about. And if that didnt suck enough my server might have not even had que to begin with if Blizzard didnt let people pay to transfer to it.

Then what is the problem, there are what dozens of realms without layering you could transfer to.

That we didn’t need it on our server… as I mentioned above? And that it’s a sub-optimal solution… as I mentioned above?

We also can’t use the free transfer option this time, so we’ll have to get everyone to pay. The first time it was free, the second was paid, this will be another paid swap.

If free transfers off layered servers were offered, it would barely be a conversation for us.

GOOD IDEA, just leave your guild, the friends on that server and go to another one. Or try and talk your guild in to paying to transfer possibly multiple characters to another server that, goes well every time!

Not every server that is being layered has the option of a free transfer. Not to mention the fact that the free option might not be a desirable option.

You thought you didn’t need…

Maybe the people in queue disagreed?

Oh… I agree transfering servers in general is not the desirable option, so why are people claiming it is?

We were people in queues. It seems 3 days, with at most a 2 hour queue for about 2 hours of the day corresponding with the ZG release was enough to trigger layers.

You thought we need…

Maybe the people in queue disagreed?

Do you have your finger on the pulse of entire swaths of the community somehow? In the discussion forum, there were many for and against.

Its the only option that actually solves the problem of the high population size.

How do transfers solve a temporary problem caused by a world wide pandemic?

Unfortunately, there are people who will look to abuse anything.
There were people discussing how to abuse new servers if opened even.

Can not revolve everything around them though or you and i get no place.

As for transfers, i would never call my realm a dead realm, though many who have never played on it accuse it as such.

We have a higher concurrent pop than vanilla during peak hours, yet a lot of people claimed it would be a transfer to a dead realm.

Dunno, maybe blizz spotted a trend, and decided to make sure it did not raise it’s head up to cause you problems, better safe than sorry.

Being that even blizz must contend with not being able to be hands on in their facilities, maybe it was easier to go ahead and implement it now.

I know you say things were OK by you, but there were a number of threads dedicated to benediction queue and transfer woes.
Like i said before, not playing there i do not personally know.

Whelp do you?

I have no encountered any negative responses to layering on my layered realm yet. People are able to login, we actually tried for a world boss, and failed, all in all people were online and playing instead of sitting in a queue.
