Addons you would like for Classic

Most of the addons I remember using in the actual vanilla era were things like:

  • a HUD to put my health, resource, and status around my character rather than in corners of the screen
  • a “piggy bank” that hid a percentage of my gold, so I easily had enough for my mount before I was level 40
  • coordinates, since the few quests I did find necessary to look up tended to be lazy and give coords rather than describe how to get somewhere (annoying)
  • an RP addon that let me put in much more detail about appearance, a full name, nickname, keep track of backstory, etc.
  • an AH addon, since their UI has always been terrible and I hated tabbing out just to do math to know price per item on random stack sizes.
  • threat meter
  • chat log
  • friend/enemy list extender

Decursive was spam one button for all of vanilla. If blizzard doesn’t allow it then it will be an effective buff to some encounters. From memory it was often trash packs in naxx that decursive made much easier but I’m sure there’s other examples.

In that case, all addons that worked in vanilla 1.12 should work in classic, yeah?

I agree, moveanything is a must for me as well.

If Blizzard doesn’t allow add-ons to play the game for you, it would make some encounters harder or “buff” them? Is that really where you are going?

"The original iteration of Healbot (and Decursive) won’t be in WOW: Classic. The earliest ones using the API of the time could pretty much automate gameplay, such that a player didn’t have to figure out who needed healing or who needed a status removed - the addon did that.

Blizzard broke that during vanilla, and Healbot stuck around without the automation as a combined raid grid and click-to-heal addon. (I used it during BC while raiding and even while grouping in dungeons, with all sorts of key combinations for heals, buffs, debuffs, and more. I switched to Clique and another grid addon later, and the functions were about the same.)

I would expect, given the discussion of addons that happened at BlizzCon’s panel, that those or similar addons would be available - but built on the modern addon API so no automation and only what the original had available."

Well stated, didn’t know that healbot was broken in its beginning stages. I believe I was still clicking at that point :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m merely stating a fact. I’m fine with blizzard removing decursive functionally but it’s a change from 1.12 and a nerf to healers and other cleansers eg. Mage.

They did dismantle decursive pretty quickly, was super cheap xD

A nerf to cleansers?

Decursive did not lower the CD of cleanse spells, it just did all the work for the cleansers.

OMG, cleansers might actually have to put forth some effort and actually do something. Oh, the horror of it all.

What little I can find does seem to agree that Decursive was broken in the earliest 2.0 BC prepatch.

However, if that’s a “nerf” to healing and decursing, nerf away. A player just hitting one button to spam a spell with the addon deciding the target is automation. A player clicking on a raid frame when someone highlights in a color that indicates a certain status type is not.

That’s a good list.

I could be wrong, but that is the way I remember it, also. I thought that Blizzard broke decursive well before even the TBC pre-patch.

At least one person would have us believe that Blizzard allowed add-ons to play the game for players all the way through vanilla, though.

No. Addons which made the game press one button and the addon will handle everything else should be removed.

Actually, I was around for all of this when it happened, and actively wrote my own personal addons. I remember the drama unfolding as it happened, and one of the exact quotes I specifically remember being stated by Eyonix (I believe it was Eyonix but it may have been from Tigole directly) was that they specifically designed and balanced encounters with addons like Decursive in mind.

Later on they broke the functionality in addons to the point where my own personal ones, that did things like automate the corpse run for me, stopped working. If I remember correctly though, all automation was completely busted shortly before or perhaps doing the pre TBC expansion patch.

What’s with the attitude? I said I was fine with it.

And it will increase the time taken to fully cleanse a raid. That’s a nerf in my book.

Why are you reacting like this when the guy wasn’t even complaining? Was simply making a comment?

IceHUD
Fishing Buddy
Atlas
Tiny Clock
X-Perl

If i cant use grid in classic I wont be healing, really wish their was a way to scale down blizz’s raid frames without having to scale down the entire screen

I highly doubt they will break things like grid, mouseovers, or other things of that nature. The entire issue with automation was that there was one button being pressed and that button press was automatically figuring out the most optimal “next ability” that should be used for your character, as well as automatically grabbing a target (in the case of things like Decursive). So you could literally have your mage spamming fireball over and over, and as soon as someone needed a curse removed it would do that instead and then you would keep casting fireball. All by pressing a single button.

Healbot was definitely the one addon that helped me decide to main as a healer and continue healing throughout my wow experience. I’d like to say that Healbot/grid and any other similar healing addon will be available during Classic, not sure why it wouldn’t.
