Addons that tell you what to do need to go

The only addons that should be allowed are ones that move UI elements with a few exceptions. This is a really complicated topic, but as someone who has used all the beneficial addons and seen how bloated the game has become because of them, it’s quite clear they are not a good thing. Addons that give you information on how to deal with mechanics take skill away from the game. If you even try to just play the game without something like DBM people will despise you in this game. That’s a huge problem that people may not initially see when they use these addons because they like the fact that these addons prevent mistakes for them. Even simple addons like GTFO are bad for the game, and especially weak auras which I have used a lot because why wouldn’t you? Weak auras can borderline play the game for you. Just look at the screens from people doing mythic world first prog or even high rated arenas. It’s absolutely insane that we got to this point. One addon I think that sits in a grey area is dps meters. They allow for player improvement but also hinder the raids overall experience because of players who pay far too much attention to them rather than mechanics. IMO I think this is one the few exceptions that a lot of people will probably disagree with but, this addon doesn’t tell you how to play and is really just a calculator used for analysis.

There are just too many things to track in this game that are really hard to see.

Sure i could try to see that dumb little square with the wolf in it next to all my other dumb little squares or i could just turn it into a bar and put it closer to the mid of my screen.

Everyone has the same info i can just see it better.

I don’t have a problem with making your important buffs more visible, but this does seem like another grey area where then you have to probably give full access to the combat log for these kind of addons to work properly which then means all these other addons that play the game for you will still be there. Blizzard needs to fix this problem

Too late to put that one back in the box…unfortunately. Try Classic - or just don’t use them?

Add ons are not required, so you can uninstall them and poof your game is not bladed no more

20 years into the game’s lifespan is horrible timing to make this stand.

Maybe year 1 you’d get more traction, but not now.

That’s very true. Our raid has a few people that don’t have mechanic addons and we still got AOTC.

There is usually voice mechanic forecasting or cast bars that notify everyone before a mechanic starts…

Of course, I cant speak for mythic raiding since I have never done it

I dont use any mechanic add ons , i dont run raids but i do keys sometimes

Problem is why wouldn’t you use addons that give you an advantage? It’s the fact that these addons like dbm, weak auras are not just giving you an advantage but putting the game on auto pilot to some extent.

I mean if i know the mechanic why would i need the add on ?

Because some people, like you, don’t like addons and decide not to use them personally…instead of trying to change the game to force everyone else to play the way they want them too

Some addons like gladiatorlosa (which gives a voice that yells at you about cooldowns from enemies in PvP) are not something I want to have in my ears whilst trying to learn.

Speaking of learning, hekili and maxdps give you the parameters to max out your DPS/HPS however, the average player will never hit 100% perfection rotation or even near 90-99%.

I get it, and I understand your perspective on this. But, tool assistance which is basically what addons are, are there to promote healthy gameplay, not negative.

I don’t know, just my thoughts sorry if this doesn’t make sense - still waking up.

so I actually used to just use things like bartender and a few other QOL addons for raid before my raid leader found out I didn’t have dbm. That’s a big no no here. And even if you know the mechanics dbm still gives you an advantage.

Yea i dont raid so i dont need it but thanks for the info

Find a new raid. No one should care if you have DBM as long as you’re not messing up mechanics. Most raids call out what DBM says anyway so it doesnt matter.

Unless, of course, you’re raiding mythic. There are a few fights that require an addon but thats on Blizz
