y do u ppl feel the need to use addons that auto mark the tank and healer in dungeons?
It’s helpful for a few reasons, the most important of which is so DPS know when they’re line-of-sighting their healer and thus not able to be healed.

I’ve found that marking the tank helps folks not to stand in cleaves and marking the healer helps me see where they are for various reasons.
Granted, I don’t use an addon to do so.

I don’t use an addon to do it but from time to time I like marking my tank just so I have a visual reference of where they are. The guild tank I run with likes to mark me for the same reason. It allows him to keep an eye on me.

It helps with determining positioning, it’s not always clear and a second of two of confusion can cost a life. Easier to just have a quickly identifiable marker to help you determine it.
If they made it possible to not see the mark on yourself that’d be great.

Gods I hate it so much when people mark me when I’m tanking or healing.
I usually just ask em to turn it off. Most do.
Thats just me personally though. I assume some folk like to know where the tank and healer are at any particular time with a glance.
You’re using too much logic there. Blizzard will never go for it.

I’ve seen people ask to mark the radioactive green Bear. If you can’t see that idk if the mark will help lol

This. Do not give me the lucky charms, I do not want the middle of my screen plastered with an icon to visually clutter my mechanics.

While I won’t actively mark other players, whenever I’m tanking or healing, I always mark myself to make it easier for other players to spot me. If someone beats me to it, I’ll roll with whatever they mark me.
I’ve been in that circumstance where there’s been a truck-load of mobs and stuff is exploding all over the screen and it’s next to impossible to tell where anyone is which when doing tougher content can very easily lead to a wipe.
I do agree with Sarama, it would be nice to have the mark made translucent so that it’s not affecting the marked players’ screen as much. And it’s completely doable: Blizzard has been able to tone down spell graphic effects for other players, so the same is totally doable for the marker icons as well.
As a healer I like having the tank marked so I can see where they are!! in the mess of 10+ mobs, plus dps , plus particle effects, spells going off, Red Blobs spawning etc etc etc… I can’t always see the tank. My raid frames may show the tank in range or not, but not where they are. or if for some reason they have LOS’d on me… (F****ing HATE fighting on stairs!!)

I don’t feel the need to use an addon. I do it manually and have for dang near a decade. But ONLY if I am tanking or healing.
As a tank it is always preferred to know where your healer is. Marking makes that much easier. If the healer doesn’t like it then that’s cool, they can remove it and I will happily let it go. I mark myself as a tank to maybe coerce the DPS to follow my lead. Though it’s success rate is a coin flip.
As a healer it’s preferred to know where the tank is. Marking makes that much easier. As well as, hopefully, gets the DPS to follow the tanks lead and make my job easier. I mark myself to make myself more visible to the tank.
As a dps I prefer to have tank and healer marked because then I can quickly identify situations where I may need to pick up adds off the healer or toss out some utility to the melee. But I never mark them myself.
As a dps … what is your issue with markings not on yourself? I don’t know how, in any way, they affect you negatively.

I mark my healer friend because they sometimes derp and gets lost.
Okay, maybe more than just sometimes. Okay a lot of times.
HLR: “Where are you guys?”
Me: “Just around the corner, follow the minimap.”
HLR runs off towords a different corridor full of mobs
Me: “Stop! Stop! OMG STOP! Stay there! Iʻm coming to you…”

First I’ll assume that your issue is the actual marking and not just using addons to do so. If I’m wrong about that…well c’est la vie.
Many people, myself included, are not fully clear sighted. When all the spell effects start to go off it can be tough to track people by sight. Knowing where the tanks and healers are can make it easier to make decisions (Don’t stand there or you’ll get boss cleave, Dance the other way so mobs stay away from the healers and don’t splash damage on them, etc…)
I also know an OCD (yep fully diagnosed and everything) healer that simply must know where the tank is every second so they can be sure they are in range and so always marks the tank.
I can see em just fine without a mark!
They are the green bar on the left side of my screen, with a nice little 
icon.

I don’t have an addon, but I do mark them (or myself if I’m tanking) so the healer and tank can keep track of each other.
Can’t heal if not in line of sight right? And a dead tank is only 50% as effective.
