Do you use any other tools for other programs?
trust me, hes not baiting Im al legally blind GM/RaidLead and Tank
I use a LOT of different things to help me see but it is all subjective to what someones blindness is caused by… color blind has different needs than someone like me who is simply legally blind and simply needs to play with our settings to enhance graphics and spells to be able to see better. i also game entirely on laptops that are 17" or better so that im right in it instead of on a desk monitor that could be twice the distance
I’m blind in my left eye. I use the GTFO addon to tell me if I’m standing in bad stuff that I can’t see. Also another thing that I use that’s helpful is Elvui and resize cast bars, so those are easier to see.
Easy Frames and Immersion are good addons.
I think I know what your youtube history looks like.
Hey I am wondering do you know any other visually impaired players on Draenor? My husband are Legally blind. We really would like to be able to connect with others. We been soloing together because others in the game typically kick us from groups when doing dungeons and raids. We created a guild and were thinking of invited impaired / blind players to our guild so maybe we can work together to help everyone enjoy game with understanding friends. My husband and I are struggling to complete endgame storyline because doing dungeons solo is hard. Any advice or help would be awesome!
If it’s really that hard for people “to get it”, then when someone shares this with you, think “legally blind” means “partially sighted”. The person who suffers this struggles to see, may have to use addons, settings, audio clues, larger scaling and fonts, adjusted lighting, etc to help them continue playing.
I came looking for the same thing: any new addons that might help me. It was annoying to see all the trolls, the stupidity of some people (ignorance means you don’t know; stupidity means you’ve been informed but don’t care). It was refreshing to see even those who weren’t able to give suggestions offering kindness and compassion. I can personally tell you as a disabled player myself: it’s not easy, and we have to put in a whole lot of effort just to be able to “hold our own” with others. But we look for options because we love the game. I’ve been playing it for about 15 years, and every lil bit helps.
I know it’s been over a year since the OP addressed this, but should anyone else stumble upon this in their search:
Addons I find helpful:
ELVUI
- It IS more complicated starting out. Absolutely, but that time learning it is well spent because you can modify and manage nearly everything: color, size, placement on your screen, etc
CursorTrail
- It highlights your cursor so you can track it a little better on your screen when fighting
DBM (Deadly Boss Mods)
- The voicepack in this is wonderful, and it is especially useful if you want to do dungeons or raids
GTFO
- Also useful. One of the first rules of combat: Don’t step in the fire. This sounds off, and it becomes automatically. You’ll be amazed at how fast it TRAINS you to move out of the fire. Make the Healers’ jobs a little easier; they’ll appreciate it.
DynamicCam
- Setting this up will help with the “motion sickness” some experience during gameplay and is totally worth looking into. Some areas are so bad that I’ve felt the urge to vomit because what I see throws everything off. Some areas, I wouldn’t go back into without this addon.
HHTD
- Because we all know if you take the healers out immediately, it signals trouble for whomever you’re fighting-- PvE and especially for PVP. This throws a + over the head. Again, it’ll train you quickly to switch targets and take them out.
TomTom
- Navigational arrow-- though this seems to be built into the new Shadowlands expansion, and playing Alpha and Beta, I found the new system Blizzard put in really helpful.
HandyNotes
- There are multiple packages available for whatever content you’re wanting to play. This puts markers up on your minimap. Sometimes hard to see if you have too many, but in most cases, it’s a bit helpful to have them.
eAlign Updated
- Simply puts a grid up on your screen to help place things. To show or hide, you just use “/align”
Weak Auras
- These are a bit tricky to learn, but I recommend googling Luxthos as he has setups for all the classes, and you can modify and place them along your screen in an area that works best for you.
ConRO
- Helps with playng because the buttons are singled out. Can be useful for developing a rhythm and muscle memory, and it’s fantastic if you want to learn a new class or spec.
And for the trolls and those without compassion-- learn honor before you claim to fight for it. Good luck, Folks, and best wishes to those who despite their disabilities struggle and fight twice as hard just for the love of the game!
If you ever need any help with dungeons etc let me know, we have a few players with vision issues and work around it.
The good eye is overworked, and is strained.
I suffer this sometimes as well. I’m told glasses that reduce monitor glare help but still haven’t tried that as I already wear glasses. So I might see about my glasses being given the glare reduction lenses.
I use SUF and Grid so I can see unit frames and stuff. I highly suggest a unit frame add-on that you can scale things with.
I recommend GTFO for the audio cues so you don’t stand in bad.
Prat for chat windows unless you go with like, Elvui which includes a chat frame overhaul.
I’m also blind in one eye. Game’s playable with a few addons.
Hi! Also legally blind - retinitis pigmentosa- and I use GTFO. I’ve also had a ton of help with upping the gamma to see better too. A lot of my problems coming with the game being too dark (wee night blind). I also second the HandyNotes and, honestly, just taking your time. I would, if running dungeons, say that you have a problem. Most don’t care, some help, and some will kick you but nobody can help or go slower unless you ask for help. I hope that helps and good luck!
Oh, also, classes that have a pet? Best thing if you don’t see enemies coming for you. Ditto for shields. I main hunters and priests - this guy is an outlier along with going slow.
For color blindness, there’s actually built-in settings that shift the colors into a range that should be easier to see based on common color blindness types.
Menu > Interface > Accessibility > Enable UI Colorblind Mode
idk if this is bait but if you have problem seeing you can try adjusting your monitor settings depending on what you need , like gamma or something
I’d assume this might be a good start, if no one has mentioned it yet.
