Addon profiler forced on now?

Why was the ability to disable addon profiling removed from today’s patch?

Please revert this change, its a CPU killer for many people, FPS 1% lows are much worse when this is enabled. Addons like Hyperframe automatically turned it off and it was a game changer. Please please please let us turn this off. This isn’t something that needs to be on all the time, let people toggle it from the addon window to track performance, see which addons suck, then turn them off.

If you’re using telemetry to collect which addons are game killers to reach out to the devs, please come out publicly saying that, because that is the only reason I can justify it being on.

Yeah the CPU profiler causes me to have big frequent freezes, having it turned off was stopping the freezing. Now we can’t turn it off the game spikes down to 0 fps for 3 seconds quite often.

Let us turn it off or get unsubbed.

For real, like what were they thinking? Such a out of touch change considering this game is already heavily CPU bound.

Because blizzard would rather gaslight their players than fix performance issues.

With it disabled I was gaining around 40-50 fps, was massive for m+ and raid

Maybe if enough people protest, Blizzard will add an ingame feature to toggle the profiler off.

they shouldve re-hired the guy that’s retired from microsoft. the one that built the ressource manager and does youtube videos now… think it’s Dave.

he could do this without eating 30 fps

I’ve seen an add-on have a setting to disable it so there’s probably a cvar to turn it off.

ethier fix it or remove it like now

There was a weakaura to set the cvar to off every login (the cvar never saved). Now the cvar is hidden and we are forced to have huge lag spikes. Sad thing is, this even effects people without addons, as every time it scans cpu usage u can see it spike to HUNDREDS of % cpu usage (the measurer, not the addons) lmao! When the stupid feature isn’t scanning and spiking my fps, it’s reporting <2% cpu usage from my addons.

I have horrible input lag now. Like my buff will show 4 whirlwind stacks and then I use an ability and then takes like 2 seconds for the game to show my buffs at 3stacks. Then sometimes i have to hit execute like 2 times to register. Having 150FPS and 6MS world and home. This is unplayable.

Lol my CPU profiler just hit 673% cpu usage, impressive blizzard.

The top 3 addons at the time:
0.5% hekili
0.4% Weakauras
0.1% better blizz plates

Let us turn this crap off it’s ruining my fps while my addons are perfectly fine.

Adding my support to this request! Please let us turn this off. I don’t even have a bad pc, but it still lags my pc. I was able to not lag when I could use the WA to turn it off but it’s lagging back again now that I cannot turn it off. Please, your game is buggy, please let us remove that feature.

Hey all!

Thanks for your feedback around this. The Addon Profiler allows the game client to show you how your addons are performing and if any may be contributing to system or game performance issues. It also provides the WoW development team with metrics they can use to look for game issues in general.

In 11.1, a bug was introduced that allowed this to be disabled by overwriting the cvar. Unfortunately, this meant that addons could toggle the cvar off without informing the player. This caused players to lose insight into how an addon was performing or affecting their client, and prevented the WoW development team from collecting important metrics. This bug was fixed in 11.1.5 and this cvar can no longer be adjusted by players or addons at all.

Our QA teams have thoroughly tested various in-game content with both the Profiler enabled and disabled. These teams have access to very accurate internal tools that allow them to see exactly where frametime is being spent during testing. Individual client performance in group content can vary depending on how many addons someone is using and what is happening on the screen. Even with no addons installed, it’s very normal to see variations in performance during a single encounter. In our examinations, the Profiler did not contribute to decreased performance.

Our development and QA teams continue to monitor game performance across all types of game activities, including group content, and continue to look for areas where improvements can be made.

Please continue to use the in-game Bug Report form when you encounter something that doesn’t appear to be working correctly. This allows the team to track trending encounters and locations that may be developing issues.

It sounds like they went back and looked into this again, and it really is not showing any fps decrease on their side. Replicating player conditions is kind of tough because players have a huge variety of hardware/software setups, but at least in their test environment there was no drop.

You may want to give them some data on what you mean by “lower end computer”. That would assist the team in any further testing they are doing. IF they were going to change their minds, providing them with the data to show them the issue might be helpful.
