I’m visually impaired, and with addons, I’ve been able to address almost every issue so that playing the game is a mostly-comfortable experience. But I use quite a few keybinds, and I find that these are easy to lose track of, when the text is very tiny, and worse, completely disappears when there’s an icon on the key. I use both ButtonForge and Bartender, but neither has any way to increase the text size without increasing the button size. I don’t want to increase button size, because my UI already takes up way too much precious screenspace. I’ve made requests of the creators of both of those addons for an option to control the keybind text, but as yet, I’ve had no response. Any suggestions? (If not resize, then possibly the ability to control the color of the keybind text might be enough.)
My only bit of advice here is to memorize your keybinds. I can’t really read the keybind font either, but I know what everything is bound to. I use the same keybind layout for all of my characters. The only things that change are the actual spells. R is always interrupt. E is always some kind of defensive. Grave key is dismount. G is some kind of heal.
I’m gonna second Theodas. You should not be relying on sight to be able to use your keybinds. To know when stuff is off CD and such, sure, but to know what key to press to activate something? Nah.
That said, WeakAuras can do pretty much anything.
Short of disabling your actionbars and making a new pseudo-actionbar from scratch, you could just make some textboxes with the keybind text in them and slap them over your real actionbar. Doing it that way would be like adding text to something in MS Paint though, very basic, all manual, not gonna update if you change the keybinds. All in all very jank, but maybe good enough if you’re dead set on a larger keybind font size.
Thank you both for the replies. Alas, my memory has its limits- I have a lot of keybinds, and certainly, have memorized and used tricks to remember a lot. Of course, 1to= are my full rotation, so I remember that, (mostly,) and I use H for healing, F’s my glider, \ are all mount/dismounts. But I’ve also got a ton of toy/trinket/bomb/fishing/crafting etc binds. It’s a lot, I know, and not for everyone.
Your suggestion is actually one I could absolutely implement, just by creating my own button icons with large visible binds, then using them as blank macros and applying them in fully transparent bars with click-through, on top of my regular bars, using either ButtonForge or Barternder 4. Would be a bit labor-intensive, but certainly an option I’ll consider! Thanks again! (Still hoping someone offers up an add-on, since I’m way too confused by programming my own WeakAura.)
Minor necro, in case anyone comes across this looking for a solution to the same problem: ButtonForge did not hear my pleas, but Bartender4 did! With BT4, you can now pick your keybind font, choose its color, as well as its location on the hotkey, AND scale it to your heart’s content. Problem Solved.
