Addon-Free Servers: Let's Discuss!

Instead of Hardcore, call it ‘2004core’.

Its basically dont ask dont tell and SE wont hound you if youre using addons.

However the reason why people use FFXIV as an ideal example is because the devs dont use player made addons as an excuse for the game to be designed with them in mind. Ultimately making the game worse for it like how we have WoW.

We should hold accountable for the devs to improve the game’s design without relying on unpaid interns to make 3rd party software to properly play the game.

SEGA!! NES/SNES soundbyte plays, N64 Logo flashes “Play Station, sounbte plays” Classic :sunglasses:

Hey if you don’t want to use add-ons then don’t you just add-ons I’m not going to stop you, and I’m not going to complain about it

But at the same time, I’m not going to ask you not to complain about me using add-on

Hard pass. This game isnt worth playing without them.

It’s basically console players don’t have access to addons so PC players get unfair advantages.

Reverse engineering and/or modifying Square Enix’s software code is illegal period. They turn a blind eye because they’re nice enough to. They still don’t want you doing it but they won’t put in the effort to kernel kit your computer because that will only lose your trust as a player even though you’re the one doing something illegal.

It has nothing to do with making the game easier or harder.

Completely agree. Addons whip the “gamers optimize fun out of games” mentality to a frenzy. Remove parses while you’re at it

I’m not even sure it’s a problem TBH. Don’t like addons and don’t care about how well you’re performing, don’t use them. I think an addon free server would really be eye opening for these complainers.

Wow was designed from the ground up with addons in mind. It’s a core part of the game.

You might as well ask for a server where dungeons and raids are disabled.

If you don’t want to use them then don’t.

Wanting to take them away from others is just an acknowledgement that they are valuable and important.

Wow is not a console game.

What a great idea!! I would love to play on a server with addons disabled. Addons carry too hard. They pretty much play the game for you these days.

It would be amazing if they would disable addons in Arena PvP, heroic/mythic raiding, and Mythic+ keys over 20.

How would I know if I was standing in a pool of fire?

I would have to go back to the old way of playing and learn mechanics.

I suggest YOU refrain from using add-ons,
if YOU so choose…
There…Problem solv-ed!

I wouldn’t mind it in theory but in practice I think WoW is just too convoluted to reasonably play without Addons. It grew up with them. For an Addon free experience we’d need less silly rotations and way less silly raid designs.

Now, do I think people should need them to play WoW? ABSOLUTELY not. WoW is pretty much the poster child for why modern MMORPGs don’t allow them or allow them with limited function (Elder Scrolls Online). Blizzard even admitted that at the time they allowed Addons they were simple UI tweaks and eventually damage meters. They could never imagine what these things do today.

Let’s not split populations further. Turn off addons if you want that experience; what you’re “brainstorming” here is for enforced experiences that align with your vision of “craving traditionalism”. The game would not be suddenly more magnetic.

Addons are fine tho I do find it funny the sheer amount of them some players need just to play the game.

This is a cool idea. I wonder how easy it would be to implement. I wouldn’t play on that kind of server but to each their own.

WoW as designed, is so incredibly dependent on players using addons that I think the game would collapse if they were outlawed.

The sheer loss of QOL features would be staggering, because Blizzard intentionally does not bother with such things because they depend on addons to close the QOL gap.

and I’m not even talking about actual raid addons that tell you when to move or whatever. I’m ONLY talking about QOL addons that enhance the UI and basic game functions.

It wouldn’t split it much. Not many would go for this idea.
