Additional weapon slots

Interestingly, paladin has a few abilities in SL that require a shield becoming baseline (shield of the righteous for example). I know weapon swap macros are avaliable but would it be more beneficial to just reintagrate additional weapon slots into the UI? What I’m thinking of is more like diablo 2, where you would litterally have 2 separate weapon sets not just the ranged/relic slot from the days of old. Allowing a 2h weapon in one set and a 1h and a shield in the other. Or 2h in both sets if you prefer, or a sword’n’board in each.

Right now I carry a weapon set along with 3 azerite pieces for every spec. That’s 13 pieces of equipment (same shield for holy/prot). I feel like haveing an equipment slot would be very benifitial. Thankfully azerite gear is going away, freeing up 9 of those slots.

I realize that some dont like that we are getting these abilities and feel that if they spec dpsthat that’s all they should worry about, and that is a valid. I do think that if that’s how you want to play you should, thankfully there is no reason to have those bound if you dont want them. I personally have always enjoyed hybrids and have especially liked being able to throw out heals to help the healers catch up taunt+defensive cd to get an add of someone squishy.

Tldr;
Would it be beneficial to reintagrate additional weapon slots into the UI for abilities like SoTR in SL?

I hope it’s actually a mistake and Shield of the Righteous goes back to where it belongs, Protection. Retribution has no use for a shield, you are there to do damage.

It would be nice if our gear was saved to our spec, not in our inventory at all. That way you’d only have to carry around things you might swap like Trinkets for example. I carry my sets for Prot and Holy too and it just uses up too much space.

I think it would make more sense if SotR did not require a shield. It could be good for big aoe(it is uncapped I believe) and when pvp’ing vs physical damage like rogue’s and warriors.

I wouldn’t be against your extra weapon slot idea but I don’t see much of a point either. Maybe to make it easier for new players to weapon swap? But I just don’t think we should make players feel like they should be weapon swapping

SotR being usable by Ret is a very good idea. However it has to be a flat damage reduction. Like say something like 30%, or so. If all it does is gives us armor, then it really won’t address the glaring flaws of our spec.

Furthermore, if it is going to require us to swap to a 1 handed and shield to use it, then Blade of Justice needs to be tweaked to not require a 2 handed weapon.

I could live with a 1 handed and a shield being requires for SotR, and a 2 handed being required for TV, so long as nothing else has a requirement, that way our rotation will still be smooth, either way.

But if there is a requirement for a 1 handed and shield for SotR, it really needs to be worth using, for the sheer amount of damage we’ll be losing, to use it. So like 30%+ damage reduction.

If it doesn’t have that requirement, and can in fact be used with a 2 handed weapon, then it can be a bit lower, like 20%

However, it still has to be substantial, as it has to be worth spending Holy Power on.

As for the additional weapon slots, I think it’s very much unnecessary. Macros do just fine. However, if we could wear them all at once, and it shows, I’d totally dig that.

Imagine me having a 1 handed on my hip, and a shield and a 2 handed on my back. I’d look like Venom Snake from MGS V.

This would have to be a part of the system, it’s just to cool of an idea.

Yeah a weapon swap UI element that can be keybound would be nice. Most people used to do that with macros already back when it was more prevalent but there’s no reason why the game shouldn’t support it.

There’s already a fix for this specific problem though! The Equipment Manager was added all the way back in Wrath, it’s one of the tabs on the top right corner of your character window and you can use it to change between custom gear sets. Hope this helps, unless you meant something else.

This was a great addition. When did they add that? Wrath? I remember have so many gear sets set up. Pve and pvp set for every spec. Only problem is it doest clear up any bag slots.

Also once you throw Jawah’s idea haveing them show while in the slot adds a whole other level of customization.

It seems like a really awkward defensive ability to add. Shield block’s been a part of Warrior off-tanking for a long time (or at least used to be), this just doesn’t work. Either add an actual defensive like old Divine Protection if the class needs a defensive (it does) or just make it so the ability provides % damage reduction or something lame like that instead. It used to do that anyway before it got changed to Armour. Again, it’d have to have no shield requirement or it’s dead in the water.

We’re probably not supposed to use it regularly on ret. It’s probably being added back mostly as flavor and for emergency backup tanking (see also, Hand of Reckoning.) I can’t imagine they expect people to use it rotationally for AoE.

100%. No way this is in anyway intended to be added to the rotation, so those who don’t want have anything to do with off specs, don’t have to.
