What? You can’t be serious. I always respect my tanks and healers, and I mainly DPS for PvE. I don’t really enjoy tanking. Doesn’t mean I can’t understand and do my job as a DPS appropriately.
The only “shortage of tanks” is a result of impatient DPS and an inability to work as a team. The tank is in charge no matter what. If they need some advice, offer it, do not take over and blame them for the wipe. It is always way more fun to be a tank when you are running with people you know and will work with you as a team rather than a bunch of impatient strangers that cannot accept responsibility. The tanks are out there, but they want to enjoy the game too.
Also, I’m pretty sure that all classes have had their available specs since they were introduced w/o change. Druids might be considered a weak exception since the duality of feral was divided in two, but they still had a tank class. When a person rolls a class that cannot be a tank, you know it and you know what you got. You need to live with it. Being handed an ability to be tank for the sole ability of getting into dungeons and raids easier is ridiculous, especially when many would use it as a means of farming dps gear. I hate to fall on such a classic statement, but: but if you want to tank, roll a tank class.
Yeah, with several of your points having nothing to do with that except your hurt feelings towards how retail changed.
And you are ignoring FACTS that over the entire lifetime of this video game has shown to proven your argument wrong. It’s fine, ignore someone challenging your awful solution that has yet to be proven right.
Enhancement shamans used to be fairly decent in lower level dungeons. As late as SoO picking up a very large number of spawned adds was not too difficult, even without using your earth elemental. Who knows if it would have gone further, but pruning stripping totems kind of killed it.
Guilds are always gonna snatch up those tanks whenever they come across a guild less tank. Cause honestly, I would much rather run with a guild over running a pug group.
Less abuse that way.
Depends actually. Guilds only really need 2 active tanks per raid team.
Ye, true. But can’t hurt to have reserve tanks or have two raid teams
Well sure, but then you run into the issue of not enough people to fill another team, or benching a tank. Most of the time what I’ve seen is guilds will take 2 tank mains, then a couple dps mains who are somewhat proficient at tanking if a main tank doesn’t show up.
Although, it’s not Retail. Shaman Raid Tanking in Classic WoW is very much a thing, happy to talk about it , if you’re interested.
Im still taking the position if Blizzard wants to solve the tank issue in queues they need to give better incentives. Currently i never queue due to the fact its pointless at this stage when i overgear the content by 50+ilvl. Unless im helping a friend alt level i never queue in dungeons or raids as i have 0 incentive.
Think if they gave rewards such as mounts pets etc. Maybe currency to buy old mounts from old raids put in a mount vendor… You would see a lot more people queuing
Druids and monks were dodge tanks for a long time.
Monks were mostly pullers when my ex played eq.
I appreciate the thought you put into your thread, but you’re operating from a false premise.
The issue isn’t a lack of tank specs, as tanks have plenty of playstyle options as it is. The obstacles to tanking are:
- Not everyone likes to tank, as it is a very different experience of the content.
- Tanking itself has taken a hit. Tanking is simply less fun now.
FFXIV tried the same thing you’re talking about when they introduced a new tanking class. What they found was that they didn’t actually get more people tanking, they simply had more class diversity within the same population.
Good hustle on the post, though. Shaman tanking would be cool, and I miss my lock tank.
This is fantasy. Guilds aren’t looking for tanks and don’t want them.
Go take a look at the guild recruitment forum. You will find very few (if any) guilds looking for tanks. You WILL find many tanks looking for a guild – but can’t find one because nobody wants them.
Many people who do want to tank end up full time DPS’ing in a guild, just waiting for one of the tanks to retire so they can move up into their spots. Kind of like tenured professorships.
And that’s how I played mine. I loved pulling as a monk. WoW was weird with it’s different mechanics.
DH is one of the most popular classes in the game AND it can tank so the tank problem is solved right? No. A vast majority keep the sword by their portrait and play like the shield option doesn’t exist. Adding more tank classes does nothing when people just straight up don’t want to.
Just bring back avoidance stacking so Rogues can tank again!
PS: We used a Rogue to tank Illidan in BC a few times just for fun lol.
We used rogues during the no healing phase of The Reliquary of Souls fight if I remember correctly.
On the topic of tank shortage, I’d be willing to bet that even if every class could tank we would still have a shortage.
Agreed. The incentives are pretty bad. I did a lot of TW’ing tanking this last week for the extra badges… 50 per dungeon wasn’t terrible (also hoping for infinite dragon mount drop), but when it comes to heroics, LFR and such? Naaaah. Not worth my time.
It’s also complete BS that when the “incentives” are active, the incentives deactivate if you invite even one other person to bring along with you… I get it, if you bring 4 buddies + yourself, you aren’t helping the queue issue. But I can’t even bring one friend and still get my teeny, tiny perk?? Stupid.
The problem with pet tanks is that the AI is a complete sperg and I wouldn’t trust it at all.
