For years roleplayers have had addons to provide last names. I think it would be a nice bit of flavor if all players got to choose a last name. Having a last name provides more immersion into the world than simply an adventurer with only a first name. I think even players who don’t roleplay would appreciate this. After playing in Azeroth all these years we’ve all seen characters with last names with the exception of Draenei who generally don’t have last names except I think 5 npcs out of hundreds. It would be nice if we got the ability to have last names.
I think the other benefit is having more names available for everyone. Right now we are two decades into WoW, and while the occasional lifting of names from inactive players help it doesn’t solve it entirely. One person could have 50+ characters with names reserved. Personally I do have 50+ characters at level 80 or higher but I’m an altoholic. It has even been a thing on Moon Guard at least for the last few years that people are selling names for gold. By allowing a first name+last name then that opens up a lot of possibilities.
I imagine this is likely a technical hurdle with how old the game is but I think it will be worth it in the long run. I think every little thing that adds up to WoW feeling like an rpg and not just an mmo is a good thing.

Then I also think we should apostrophes in their names. There are numerous characters in the story that have these but players themselves cannot. For example:

- Kel’thuzad
