It all boils down to people ( or at least a very loud group of people ) only want to buff themselves or everyone because of crushing societal pressure to play as a cohesive unit is too much or they’re selfish players.
I love PI. Gimme more PI stuff. Gimme my Blessing of Might back.
The descriptions I saw on Wowhead made me think it was going to be more Rogue like. They way it sounded made them seem like spies, talking about watching and reporting on their enemies
The Adamant Vigil
This weyrn shall be the eyes and ears of the black dragonflight and the legions of dracthyr.
Where our enemies tread, you will find them. Where our armies fly, it will be your guidance that directs their talons. Learn the weaknesses of our foes and amplify the strength of our allies.
Only the most bold, most cunning, and most gifted commanders shall join the ranks of the Adamant Vigil. This weyrn shall be granted unprecedented authority to act on its own initiatives, and shall answer to only Scalecommander Emberthal and the Earth-Warder.
That doesn’t sound tanky to me. Eyes and ears, that reads like spys. Weaken foes and amplify the strength of allies. That sounds more like a Rogues poisons/Warlocks curses to me.
Maybe a GW2 conditions/boon style DPS class that has direct attacks or DoTs that reduce enemy damage and increase damage done to the enemy or slows enemy attack/spellcasting speed.
You just prove to me disciple isn’t exactly a healing spec…
You are the one of the only people here who seems to know what your talking about. “Healing” is VERY different from a “Support” spec or class. As someone who played other mmos before and during wow, Venomancer was one of the best examples along with EQ Shaman/ bard and Loremaster from Lotro. Most Supports I played barely healed or had one healing spell but mostly relied on pets or dots to dps while placing constant debuffs/ buffs, pulling mobs, ccing. Healers don’t really have more cc than other classes in wow tbh i.e. your not out-ccing a rogue for example .

next role imo would be Runecaster.
Runic magic is a magic that employs runes/sigils, symbols that hold magical power. Types of magic that runes can access include [light], [void], [fel], [arcane], and [death]
Rune sets
Within the game, three sets of runes are used repeatedly:
- One set of runes based on the [Futhark] runes - used by [vrykul] (particularly the [Bonespeakers], the [iron dwarves], the [drust], [Helya]and her forces in [Helheim], and [Odyn] and his forces in [Halls of Valor].
- One set of runes based on [Enochian] sigils - used by the [Shadowmoon clan], particularly the [Shadowmoon Burial Grounds], as well as the [Lich King], [The Jailer], and the [Runecarver]
- One set of runes otherwise - used by Titan facilities or Titan-shaped locations, such as the platform in the [Emerald Dream], and in locations of people touched by the Titans such as the night elven [Vault of the Wardens]
- The runes used during the [Black Empire] [Assaults], [Horrific Visions], and [Ny’alotha]have only been used there so far.
The effect of a rune depending on the symbol drawn
The effect of a rune might be determined by the symbol drawn. For example, the rune/symbol drawn on hearthstones (which teleports their users home) means home.
Types of Runes
There are three kinds of runes: marks, glyphs and sigils. A mark is inscribed upon a creature, and each mark targets a single creature. A glyph is cast upon an object, and each glyph targets a single object. A sigil is placed upon an object or creature in order to create an effect in an area, with that object or creature at the center. Each sigil has an area that it affects.
“It’s always been this way so it must always always be this way”.
People are making a chicken out of a feather.
Even more fallible a statement when it hasn’t even always been this way.
Aren’t “healers” just a support now?
At the high end it’s all about their DPS and utility, no one that’s good cares about healing.
I feel like a support class would be good for groups who know what they’re doing and don’t take massive amounts of unnecessary damage, would help speed up dungeons. They would probably be like a middle of the pack damage and heals
Support is not strictly utility.
Dont most tanks double as a support role?
be kind of boring if they stripped away all of the utility classes/specs had and funneled it all into “support”
Well, that would help the button bloat and probably result in buffs to pure DPS to compensate.
I am all for it, why do you have 3 DPS in a group instead of 2? The support roles were fun to play in other games.
I’m both old and have been playing WoW as long as it has been… and I’m still shocked at how deeply resistant people are to change.
They’ve been doing pretty solid in DF, IMHO, with trying out new things and trying to evolve WoW, rather than just churning out more iterations of the same thing, and it has been nice to see them taking these risks. I’m down for some paradigm-shifting.
Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn’t, and it just ends up being converted to another healer spec… but personally I’m excited to see if they decide to really shake things up.
Edit - I should probably put here that I am biased here, as I’m very much a support class personality and have always been a little sad WoW never had one. That said, if Blizzard wants to hook me in to another 2 decades of WoW… this isn’t bad bait to use.

This whole thread is just a Dunning-Kruger fest.
You have 3 DPS in a group because you want as much damage as you can get, because more damage is always valuable. You only ever want just enough healing to cover unavoidable damage and to ensure everyone stays upright, because there’s no bonus to your team being overhealed or even at 100%.
This is why classes and specs typically ran for support (HPriest, HPal, Resto, etc) are asked to contribute DPS when the team is maximized and there’s no need for precasting heals to mitigate big damage.
You act as if support cannot DPS. You act as if the support could not assist in the prevention of damage. You act as the support cannot raise the DPS plus their DPS to be onpar with current DPS contribution. It can be done and balanced.
Have you missed the myriad of threads here where support classes were apoplectic about their teams daring to ask them to hit Holy Fire or Shadow Word: Pain now and again while the team was healthy? I know full well that support classes can contribute noticeably to DPS, that’s why it’s important that ‘healer’ be relabled ‘support’ to get people out of the ‘uh my role says HEALER so all I do is HEAL’ mindset.
