Yes. Which is why they would need to actually add a Support role. Increase group size to six, or eliminate a DPS slot. Evokers, Paladins, Shamans, Priests, and Warlocks would all be fantastic to start with for Support specs.
It’s not ridiculous. The game literally launched with two support classes. The role has been supported in MMOs before and after WoW. And speak for yourself - I’ve been salty about the support role being gutted for nearly two decades.
I have no idea how it would work NOW but no lie, I’d play a support class.
I’d be okay with working a few existing specs into them or just adding a new spec to a few classes. (Warlocks, Shaman, and paladin all seem like they could join evoker in support.)
I doubt that’s what woiuld happen however. It’s a HUGE shift.
Shaman was sold to the players as the offensive Support class, whereas Paladin was the defensive Support class. Both performed the Support role admirably, if not at a less impactful efficiency than some contemporaries.
Op,tell you the truth you only need one tank, one dps, and one healer for most dungeons actives, yet I can hear the screams from the healer ego coming though saying, “We don’t need you we have too much heals” <this was the case of my disciple priest. So in all it can work out just fine if they do do this.
