Yeah this has been a thing since Wrath, and the old, “Bring the player, not the class”, now it’s gone into turbo mode and class fantasy just gets further diluted.
I think the Dev’s have thrown their hands up and said “fine, have it your way” and so more classes get to do more stuff they couldn’t before.
Player base needs to be more careful what it wishes for.
Will it break the game if a DK can summon? Nope, but it’s still going in the wrong direction for my tastes.
A lot of the unique things from classes get spread around.
Shamans were the Bloodlust class.
Druids were the BR class.
Then hunters got Bloodlust and their birds got BR.
Mages got Bloodlust too.
Drakthyr also got Bloodlust.
Paladins got the BR… PALADINS!
etc etc.
I think it’s fine that Warlocks are the only class to have this unique thing.
But I also think it’s a bit weird that nobody else has it either, since summon is such a big utility power.
If you want to make the argument that Bloodlust is basically mandatory for some content, then we can make similar arguments for things like healthstones, summons, etc… with varying accuracy depending on who you are and where your prejudices lie.
It would be neat to have more summoners, but it would also make warlocks less special… and I think their never going to forgive DHs for getting Metamorphosis.
What’s wrong with that? We were the original BR, with Paladin heroes having a mass in-combat rez in WC3.
While mages make the most thematic sense for a summon, for gameplay reasons it should be given to a class with less utility IMO.
Mechanically they took away a lot of paladin utility (Kings, etc) and it feels like their making up for it by giving them something else.
I’d rather they just kept what made them unique. I get WHY they gave it to them… IDK, I just think Paladin as a BR class is odd. And that’s a personal gripe.
I mean, I honestly don’t care if another class gets the summon spell or not, that’s just… whatever. But warlocks are already really good to bring along for healthstones, gateways, CC and the fact that warlocks are usually pretty good dps, so… I really don’t think raid leaders feel obligated to bring a warlock just for the summon
Well it’s blizzards fault for not allowing creative development as part of their work culture. It’s well documented that blizz stifled the creative devs and a lot of the best ones left. Many of them left with mike morheim at his new studio.
Ions vision for wow is for us to just buy more tokens to pay for gear and Carrie’s. welcome to the world of Paycraft
Yeah pretty much. Warlock summon is just for mid-raid summons most of the time these days. Heck, Valdrakken is a stones throw away from the raid and all the dungeons as it is, anyway.
I’m surprised there’s not a summoning toy yet tbh. Even if it worked exactly like lock summoning and dropped a closet. Could even give it a lengthy cooldown.
I’ll agree with DK summon but the target must be dead. It’s like the Kyrian daily quest where you judge if the target should go back or go through the SL. The only summon that work ONLY if you are a ghost … That would be different.
It would also make sense with lore as DK pull you from the Shadowland or on your way to it.
Mage portal would also make sense but only if it’s from a main city. Like a new spot in the portal room of every city (like a place holder portal) that become port to you mage location if they cast a portal to your current city. But at that point coding would probably be the issue. The DK one seem the easiest to do and the more logical lore wise.
