Add passive generation of MSW stacks?

What if MSW stacks generated naturally over time even if you don’t hit something?

Could make MSW talent useful for ele and resto and would allow enhance to enter a fight already having some MSW stacks w/o having to pre-pop wolves.

Would also allow some MSW stack generation while kiting/being kited or ccd.

Actually you might be onto something

As an enhance, I am not opposed.

But in general I feel like they’d have a 50% cut off or something, and for it only to be OOC. Which takes away from the kiting aspect. Probably an additional talent to allow it to happen in combat.

It could just be up to 5 stacks. And it could be slow. Like 1 MSW per 6/sec or something. But it would allow shaman to enter combat w/1 MSW cast banked and would allow some amount of generation while not in melee.

At 12 seconds per MSW stack it would have similar power to nature’s swiftness but without the mana efficiency that NS has.

Ret has a similar talent that generates 1 holy power per 12 sec. But, since MSW stacks are about half as valuable as holy power, maybe make it 1 MSW per 6 seconds.

If they made a passive MSW generation into a choice node with flurry it would open a lot of potential for all the specs, and finally give a reason for resto/ele to even consider the talents.

I agree at the very least having 5 stacks (even if generated slowly) would be nice. Having to pop wolves to do this isn’t ideal because we rely on them for damage.

I like the idea of editing the talent to keep enhance as is, but giving ele and resto a passive generation format…maybe 1 stack every x seconds.

The main problem with this, as someone who tried to make some wonky specs when the talents first came out, is that lava surge procs will consume all maelstrom stacks you have anyway, which essentially makes it useless for ele (and resto if they run lava surge).

Very good point, I think maybe making it so it cannot be consumed by a spell with a current cast time of 0 could address that, so procs and other CDs don’t interact with it. That way it becomes more of a flexible buff in your core rotation and doesn’t stack modifiers too much

Wolves are basically passive Maelstrom generation already.

I mean, of course you have to activate them but with a couple talent points in Witch Doctor’s Wolf Bones, they’re up more than they’re not.

It has to be baseline, my problem already is there’s to many must pick nodes and not enough talent points.

For example I’d love to fully talent into Elemental Assault and Legacy of the Frost Witch (which is vital for physical build), but you can’t, I’m all for Elemental Assault being removed and just getting a MSW stack passively 1 every few seconds baseline up to 5, be great for PvE and PvP.

IMO Maelstrom should be separated into damage and healing, lets say for every 2 damage maelstrom you generate 1 healing maelstrom. This way I can stop sacrificing my damage to heal myself lol

Let’s go back to banking more than we spend so you cast while banking a heal.

Make 5 stack spending competitive again by making overflowing a choice node that alternatively buffs 5 stack msw casts significantly.

They should put as node choice Tidebringer and Maelstorm weapon together in class choice sinse they both work the same way. And it would make Healer go that way.

And For ele they should make it have a chance to proc some via lightning bolt is you have storm shield. But I think the issue for Ele would be what spell would trigger to use

Make it a TRIPLE Choice node — Stormkeeper/Tiderbringer/Maelstrom Weapons

This would not replace Stormkeeper in the Resto/Ele trees either.

I hated that they made overflowing mandatory it really does not feel that good because having 10 msw feels like what having 5 felt like any other expansion. we are stacking more to do the same it is so dumb

1000% this. Not only that, but now you can’t bank 5 MSW and in PvP the MSW spenders had to be nerfed because it was too strong. Makes 0sense.

Yeah pre season and season 1 enhnace was some of the most fun i ever had playing it until they shortly after nerfed the spender after everyone begged to nerf overflowing ONLY

That’s a great idea, just like druids getting 50 energy as well

I’ve had the idea of adding a similar affect to spirit walkers grace so it actually has utility for enh. Obv bc it’s a cooldown it would have to generate a bit more than what y’all are suggesting.

Resto/Ele still wouldn’t take it because there would never be a time where they let it stack to 5, since they are constantly casting so the first stack would always get consumed.
