I’m looking for an add-on that lets me see what progress/quests my group mates are on. We have a leveling group of some real life friends, some of whom are new to mmo/gaming and… communication has been an issue at several points.
I did some browsing and the few that I found either need everyone to have the mod, or the mod hasn’t been updated in months.

Questie does this.
No matter which addon you find, this part is going to be necessary. You can see that others are on the same quests as you in the Quest Log if they’re close enough, but to know their status in terms of items picked up, it needs them to have the addon to ‘tell’ the addon on your side the information.
A lot of people do have Questie. (I do, and in most groups I’ll see at least 2 others listed, if not all 5.)
