Some might disagree, as I still see a lot of buzzing for Tinkers and Bards, but let’s be real. DH and Evoker have both cannibalized and copied abilities from other classes, making it feel like the design team is starting to bump up against the limits of what can actually be done within the constraints of the 20-y/o game engine without straight up copying existing classes.
The existing classes have frameworks and identities that can still be expanded upon further, and people have been asking for new ways to play their favorite classes. Why not make some new specs that utilize some of the new tricks they learned when making the Evoker?
I personally have some ideas…
Warrior could get the Gladiator spec, a DPS spec using sword-and-board, maybe as a hybrid between PPaladin and Arms.
Paladin could get the Inquisitor spec, a ranged DPS spec focused on wielding the light to do damage. Think of an expanded version of HPal and its many ranged tricks.
Hunter could get the Mender spec, a melee-based Healer themed around using natural remedies and unique pets to heal.
Rogue I had a hard time of thinking of a good ideas for, and eventually thought… There’s an assassin spec, a pirate spec, a ninja spec… why not a bard spec? Bard could then be another melee DPS spec, with the movement freedom of Monk combined with abilities that boost both themselves and allies as they deal damage. Kind of like a reverse-poisons playstyle.
Priest could get the Condemnment spec, a ranged DPS using the Light as the focus for their damage instead of Void. Similar to Paladin, think of HPriest except its abilities have a greater focus on damage. Could also operate similar to Rogue’s Bard with a focus on enhancing allies.
Shaman, obviously, gets the Warder spec, a Tank themed around using the earth, a largely unexplored element in the class, to protect themselves.
Mage could get the Chronurgy spec, a Healer themed around using time to mend wounds proactively. Could even say the Bronze Dragons taught us after Nozdormu went insane or something.
Warlock, again, I had a hard time thinking of something for. Stepping on as little of Demon Hunter’s toes as possible, they could get an Infusion spec, a (bear with me) melee DPS spec based on enhancing yourself with demonic magic instead of a demonic companion.
Monk was pretty easy. They could get the Hopebringer spec, a ranged DPS based around the Red Crane, manipulating Chi from afar.
Demon Hunter could get the Lament spec, a melee DPS class focused on tearing enemies apart from within with debuffs.
Death Knight could get the Plagued spec, a ranged DPS with a multitude of area denial abilities themed around using the plague of undeath. The pain of their enemies enhances their spells.
Finally, Evoker could get the Accumulation spec, a Tank that uses the power of the Black Dragonflight, the only one not explicitly named in their current specs, to enhance themselves and protect against damage.
Druid gets nothing, but they should rework Feral to be less Rogue and more its own thing.
