Ad blockers

If Blizzard added ads to the wow forums and blocked users from reading and posting if an ad blocker was detected, on a scale from 1-10, with 11 being the highest, how much nerd rage would that generate?

It would be a lot, and deservedly so. Posters on these forums…at least the large majority of them…are subscription-paying customers, unlike the browsing masses that frequent the add-supported websites to which you are comparing these forums to.

not much. the internet can generate workarounds faster than corporations can generate roadblocks

I’d probably stop browsing the forums to be honest. I already dislike Hulu and Paramount+ which has “ads” with their cheapest plan. I am like, I am already paying you a monthly fee to watch shows here and you are shoving ads in my face? Why not create a free “ad supported” option? Or limit what shows the cheapskates like me watch (no Hulu originals and such)?

But unlike Hulu, I don’t care enough about the content of this forum to pay a sub fee and be subjugated to ads.

It wouldn’t happen, but if they did I would stop perusing these fourms

Ads would make no sense here, since you already have to pay to post.

I use ads on my site to make a lot of money, but i also dont bombard my readers with the damned things like Wowhead does.
If this forum was that obnoxious, id stop reading here entirely. I only use wowhead when I have no other options. This forum isnt that valuable by a long shot.

IF they can put ads up and keep it under control, thats fine. As I said, I use them too. But if their going to be obnoxious about it, bye bye. I can read 1000 other game forums instead

There’d be a lot of salt. I’d just block the element with the ad like I do on other sites that try so hard to get around ad blockers.

Forum access is part of what we pay for with our subscriptions so there shouldn’t be advertising here, but then again… the launcher shouldn’t look like something an adblocker would usually protect me from either :joy:

I’ll have what he’s smoking!

I use Firefox and uBlock Origin to ad block with …works great…

This.

youtube tried this and it’s losing badly.

Any YouTube content creators care to comment about ad blockers? I’m curious if the ad blocker usage really affects you. For example, does Google give you a 5% cut of ad revenue and it doesn’t really affect you? Or does Google give you a 50% cut, and ad blockers negatively affect your content creation business?

I can only speak for myself but if none of the dozen or so ad blockers wouldn’t work I simply wouldn’t use the forums.

I don’t see that though as even youtube can’t keep up with ad blocks. I stopped watching Youtube for all of 3 days I think since their latest crack down. And during that time you could watch it using yewtu.be without ads.

Moo!

I mean, we already pay for access to these forums. They’re not free message boards. So if they started putting ads and blocking adblockers on here i’d just stop using the website.

Every day i get to see who’s winning the tug of war on youtube based on which of my firefox addons is working that day.

I have one that always circumvents the adblocker-blocker, but plays videos in a janky alternative player that you have to pop out to watch videos in fullscreen, and then i have Ublock, which keeps things looking normal.

Ads are usually for public non paid places, and banned users cant post anyway

Quit looking for problems that don’t and won’t exist teeheee.

I refuse to use the internet without an adblocker. Firstly, i dont care about capitalistic revenue and secondly, i have never seen an ad that didnt annoy me.

Websites that block adblock just get added to a filter in the firewall to get blocked.

People in general just have a very understandable hatred for ads, so I’d say a lot of people.
