Actually, its a pretty smart move.

After watching the opening ceremony, I knew the Diablo community would absolutely lose their minds. But honestly, this is prolly the smartest move they could have gone with. Let me explain.

The demographic of gamers between the ages of 30 and 45 is rapidly shrinking. Like, really fast. This was the original heart of Blizzards community. But life, career, and maturity has taken its toll. The vast majority of these gamers just do not play anymore... and if they do, its very situational.

So, Blizzard has to attract new gamers. No two ways about it. If they don't, they will no longer exist.

You gotta face facts, younger kids are the futre of gaming, and this game is going to be very popular with them. Trust me, I teach 11 year old kids every day, they lose their minds for mobile games. And this will be a great way to get them loving Blizzard titles and playing their games.
There was nothing intelligent and/or planned on Blizzard/Activision part.
Diablo mobile isn't going to make Pokemon Go, Farmville, Candy Crush, Clash of Clans type of money. Due to the fact it doesn't have mass market appeal especially among kids who waste their parents money on these type of games.
Always said that the world is getting worse and not only that gaming is as well boy I was right.

umm .. no.

That's not even remotely true.
You put more thought into this post than Activision did with this mobile game. I refuse to believe Blizzard was involved in anyway.

All they did was kill off Diablo for good, I mean they've been ignoring the franchise for years now but this was the final nail in the coffin. Now I know how Command and Conquer fans feel...
Isn't this the WoW forums?

No, it was not the smartest move.

They should have let the mobile game silently roll out, and give any other number of Diablo-related news. Hell, they could have fleshed out discussion of the Diablo Bestiary books, and that would have been much better received than a Diablo mobile game.

What they did was hype the Diablo news as much as they could, reiterate the Diablo Switch announcement, and then butcher all Diablo hopes and dreams for Blizzcon with the mobile game announcement.

Complete and utter PR nightmare.
If that's true, why didn't they release a mobile version of overwatch? it's one of the most popular blizzard titles right now, and fortnite recently proved that you can have success with a mobile shooter.

why diablo? why not overwatch? they gave warcraft 3 an HD remake, but couldn't do the same for diablo 2? why not an expansion for diablo 3? they could've given us what we wanted, but instead made a game that literally no one asked for.

Mind you, this was done in 2015, so things are much worse now.

Gamers between the age of 30 to 40 make up around 20 percent of the market.

There are no good ARPG mobile games. They can prey on that.

It's shrinking because they don't make great games or expansions anymore.
True

They've given far more consideration and thought to this decision than...

...on the forums has.
"We have the technology and money to produce a visual masterpiece. But let's just make a low res version in the series, and give it the worst possible controls."

Future sure is lookin' bright.

And yet, every ARPG that has launched so far sucked and failed horribly. I can prey on that fact, as I will not be touching this horrific 'addition' to the Diablo Franchise. Ever.
Kids playing diablo with all this "video games turn kids into mass murderers" crap?
I can see all these parents saying no.

lol, oh really?

I have a feeling that a small army of analysts and strategists have made a compelling case for the investment.

Where's your power point, bud?

Its not shrinking. Its growing.

All of the demographics are growing, especially that one.
Blizzard needs to implement a geriatric division for us old farts that like good games on traditional devices.
