Actual time to hit 120 in BFA vs 60 in classic

So I’ve seen people talking about difficulty between modern WoW and classic WoW. No doubt the game has changed. But I’m curious how the time to level has really changed. So I’m gunna put it to the test. Tonight i will begin leveling in BFA. No heirlooms, and no flying in areas not designed for it (basically everything but cata) and i want to see how long it would take a “new player/account” to hit 120.

I will be leveling at an average pace roughly the same as i will in classic. This isn’t a speed run, it’s a comparison. Does anyone have any guesses how the 2 will compare in /played time?

How do you compare leveling from 1-120 with 1-60 ?

60 in classic will take much longer than BFA. I don’t know how many times longer, but considering even if you know what you are doing it still takes a couple weeks, short of being the stereotypical no-lifer, I would say several.

EDIT: Leveling is part of the game in classic WoW though, not an obstacle gating you from the game, so you should do it at your own pace.

I believe the average time for 1-60 in vanilla is 200 hours played. I expect to take my time and probably be closer to 500.

80-90 hours without boas and not rushing i’d guess.

Average is around 50 with boas.

My fastest 1-120 or 20-120 was around 2 days played, so Classic is definitely, without a doubt, much slower.

Important thing to note is that you won’t die leveling in BFA, I don’t remember last time I died leveling, while in Classic you’ll die often, just pulling 2-3 npcs is death usually for some classes, have to go 1 by 1 carefully.

From my last level experience (with BoAs) in BfA I’d imagine classic to take 2-3 times as long if you somewhat know what you’re doing. 2-3 days compared to 5-7.

Just by /played time playing at my normal pace. I don’t think it would be fair to say one is “harder” because it’s so different. And i encourage others to do the same. We have 3 months to kill!

That wasn’t my point.

Leveling from 1-120 you are traveling through eight expansions.
Leveling from 1-60 you are traveling through one.

Well the exp has been adjusted though the years. That’s why you can’t compare 1-60 time now vs then. It honestly seems the only way to compare

I seem to recall when they did the first xp nerf in BC or wrath it was “to restore the amount of time needed to cap to what 1-60 used to be” or something like that. I always assumed they’d stuck with that but I’ve been using heirlooms for years and can level a character in less than 2 weeks if I get on a tear, somehow I doubt that’s repeatable in classic.

I’d guess it’ll take roughly twice as long as it does with looms, like 4 weeks kinda-sorta no-lifeing the leveling process. If I can do better I’ll be pleasantly surprised I guess.

How else can i do it? I’m trying to be objective and look at numbers/facts, not opinions. If you have an suggestions I’d be glad to hear them.

1-110 (legion) maybe 55 hours without heirlooms or 2 days 7 hours /played. Add whatever 110-120 time is… a day?

WoW Classic world record 4 days 20 hours /played which most people will never come close to…

I like this idea. I might do it with you. Like you said, need something to do for the next 3 months!

I don’t. I was replying to Elibourne because he was asking what metric you would use to compare the 2 experiences. It was just easier to directly quote you saying in the OP which metric you were using.

Ah sorry I misunderstood. I thought you were lol’ing at me using /played time.
