The response to the failings of actiblizz have taken a massive chunk out of their stock. And yet, still we have limited communication. No real substantive announcements of future products. Even 8.1 is being rolled out in phases, so the content we are actually getting is very little.
8.1 BFA content will be devoured in a few hours. The game is in the state its in due to lack of depth and complexity in the design of the game. If blizz had never abandoned RPG elements in a phony attempt to “expand” the audience which ultimately led to a smaller amount of subscribers, people would organically find content to do.
Side complaint - The great Prot War rework is that prot wars are getting IP off the GCD gasp did you really have to wait for 8.1 to do that?
WOW looks pretty, but the content is shallow and cheap. Would be nice if they opened up channels of communication to get me excited for the future (not the diablo immortal wyatt cheng kind of excited either).
Oh wow I think we went a whole week without another overdramatization of ATVI stock prices. Must be a record. I half expected someone to post about how it was positively gaining for a few days, but that wouldn’t fit the narrative that Activision is dragging Blizzard down to the 4th circle of Hell.
When ATVI has a positive day does that mean that Blizzard made all the right choices that day? Or is it that only down trends work to stir the tea leaves?
After all, if a down trend means that a portion of the portfolio is dying then surely positive movement means that nothing is wrong?
Every time I see someone say something about the stocks, I assume they want blizzard to fail. That means no more wow, no more Overwatch, basically no more blizzard games, there servers will be shut down. So careful what you wish for kiddies.
The price of the shares being crushed is mainly about expectations. Expectations for sales growth in the company (this quarter it was more about CoD and lunchables aka Destiny 2 and no heroes or saviors - about the only place WoW and Blizzard fits in at this point) and about expectations for consumer spending in future quarters.
The main thing to remember is that a bad stock doesn’t necessarily mean that the company is bad. Even if the stock price continues to drop (depending on holiday sales period), the ActiBlizz has billions in cash, is making billions in profit every year, and not going out of business any time soon.
Every Diablo fan’s favorite mobile game developer NTES was green today. So were Microsoft and Sony. Okay, Microsoft is more than just XBox but Sony profits these days are mostly about Playstation sales.
I think a lot is riding on this holiday shopping season.
