Activision-Blizzard meets Q3 expectations, but what did it cost?

https://venturebeat.com/2018/11/08/activision-blizzard-hits-q3-earnings-but-spooks-investors-with-weak-q4-forecast/

The Santa Monica, California-based video game giant earned 52 cents per share, which was better than expected analysts’ expectations of 49 cents to 51 cents per share. Revenue was in line with expectations at $1.66 billion.

Releasing an incomplete game, full of bugs etc. to save their asses.

Face it, Blizzard the company that make games "It will be ready when it is ready" is long gone. They can't afford to delay BfA release. Delaying means significant loss of revenue in Q3 which will upset shareholders.

To hell with you subscribers and your feeling of 'nostalgia'. They got shareholders to please and they can't simply issue a forum ban to their investors.

We are just object and revenue source to Blizzard now.

Time to punish Blizzard by not pre-ordering their crap until I see a review of the released version. Don't have much faith in Blizz anymore.
Stocks go down. Blizzard is out of touch with their player base.

Stocks and profits do better than expected..who cares.
Blizzard is spiraling down, it's plain to see. Diablo: Immortal is just the very first huge example. BFA was partially an example - the biggest name for their company launched in such a state that it makes players wonder "did this go through alpha and beta?".

The stock is very good evidence that people are not interested in devoting money in a company who doesn't know what time it is.
This is called "a business."

These are not your "pals", nor part of your "community."

Expecting that, leads to being let down.
Money talks. If they value that above all else, we're going to see them use it, hopefully to everyone's benefit.
I fully expect Blizzard to be out of business by next week based on nothing but my own righteous indignation.

Or quickly fill their wallets then ditch the sinking ship.

The ship isn't sinking though. Might have a leak or 2 somewhere that they keep trying to patch up, but it's not sinking.

Spiraling down = exceeding profit expectations?

Weird.

Their stocks have been doing very well for several years now, exceeding expectations is almost the norm.

However, the current drop and low Q4 predictions will certainly make people queasy...Bubbles burst, it’s too early to claim the end of times, but it’s certainly enough to make people wonder if this is the first horseman of a bursting bubble.

We’ll have to see...

Exceeding profit expectations? Were their expectations near nothing? They don't voice their expectations do they?

In addition, just because a company makes some quick money doesn't mean they are doing themselves a favor in the long run. People are waking up to the fact that Blizzard is either disconnected from their customers or they don't care.

Blizzard relied a lot on the gamer's good will for sales. This is why people tolerated pre-ordering BfA, D3 and Warcraft III. They wouldn't have able to pull that kind of pre order numbers because of the community.

However there's a rising sentiment that sense of community is being betrayed and exploit now and in turn, will leads to Blizz destruction.

It would be horrible if they were doing as well as Square Enix and that FF game, stockwise. With that massive downward trend for the year. At least Blizzard is effectively holding steady.

On what world do you live on where you think Blizzard had near 0 profits?

Time to punish Blizzard by basing your decision on whether to buy or not based on someone elses opinion.... yeah that sounds about right... NOT.

Reviews are subjective opinions based on the person's owns likes and dislikes. You wanna play follow the leader, go ahead or be curious, try it and if you like it fine; if not and you can return it do, if not chalk the experience and money spent as a learning experience. Life is way too short to be led around by the nose by someone elses opinon.

The world where 5 years from now they're still doing as well as they are now.

They are making money now. Doesn't mean they'll make money in the near future.

Blizzard needs to reconnect with the playerbase otherwise they will eventually crash.

All their latest releases and attempts to make new/fun games have been failing.

Blizzcon? Are you serious, Blizzard? That was the poorest performance I've ever seen.

Those of you who want to attack for/defend Blizzard, you need to get your head out of your rear ends. Wake up and realize Blizzard doesn't care about you - only your money. You are protecting a selfish entity who doesn't notice anything but dollar signs.

I say all of this as a current BFA player. I've played WOW since 2005. On and off. I love this game. I love the lore. I love the game play. And I love most of the community.

I hurt for Diablo fans. They've been in the dark, waiting patiently for years, quietly for the most part - they get Diablo: Immortal at Blizzcon. And no signs of anything they truly want in a PC experience, which is what they enjoy.

It's at least a step better than "pay for a game before you have any idea what is it about or whether the game will be completed on time"

I disagree but I like finding things out for myself if it grabs my interest. As to the 'completed on time'... I have time to be patient, understanding that sometimes, even more often than not, things don't work out as planned. I've taught myself to not get hot under the collar when 'time' doesn't go the way I'd hoped or counted on. If I can control the circumstances that is one thing but if I can't, I just deal and adapt, makes life a whole lot better. As I said, life is too short.
